Having never worked on USD forks, do they have a drain plug at the bottom? If so, does that allow you to remove the plug and pump the shock until all the oil is out?

Thanks for the 200cc spec.

You got a lot done, 2LZ! Please take lots of photographs of your FMF TC2 installation!

Nah....not unless you want to take them apart. The bottom bolt, like normal forks, bolts the guts together...at least on other USD forks I've rebuilt. (Vic) On both the CB's I dropped them out, took the top cap off, flipped them over and drained them into a measuring cup. I pump them as needed and then count them both down to 10 drips each.
I put a bit more in because it really seemed to help the performance of the Hondanoid forks without overpressurizing. Whether it's just the new fluid or a 'tad extra' that does it, or both, I don't know. Just make sure you measure what you drain so you get a ballpark of what's in there.
Of course, "spec' (on the specs for my other bikes) is "'XX' measured down to the top of the fluid, without springs, and forks compressed."
I'm not racing......sheesh. It's a trail bike!

You got it Spud! This one is going to be WAAAAYYYYY easier than mounting one on the Hondanoid! No pipe bender or 'torch and swedge' needed this time! 8O

I am really excited for your first modified Ride Report. I am also glad the usual beautiful Kalifornia weather has returned to bless your 'first' outing.

Well, as you've seen in another thread, I got the FMF TCII mounted.

Other happenings today on the Q project. The new tires and tubes.
I received the new Kenda Dual Sports and Tuff Tubes, as you know.

Well....you can mount a million tires and tubes and sometimes.....you're gonna roll "snake-eyes". :x
Brand new Tuff Tube....using all the baby powder known to man and also, a very nice set of spoons....ready for the scrap heap.
I cannot explain the litany of cursing that ocurred after this mishap, especially with how thick and tough these new tires are. Even flat, I bet I can ride on these tires. Of course, it only happens with mail-order. Back to the bike shop for a regular dirt bike tube.

As Doc had mentioned prior about his Q, once I started disassembling, I was VERY impressed with the quality of the tires and tubes that came off the bike. I knew the tires were a Kenda enduro/trials style....but so were the tubes. Far thicker and more sturdy than the other CB's I've changed. What got me to doubt the tubes? One, my other CB's. Second? Kawazacki's mishap testing the new Konker. Didn't want to chance it. Now that I've pulled the stock tubes?? I'd run 'em!

Completely impressed with the alloy rims, etc....on the Q. Just be VERY careful changing tires or fixing flats. As beautiful as they are, they mark easily....even with the right spoons. I went over both rims with a spoke wrench. Only had to tighten 7 between two rims. That was amazing!

A 'must have'.

Finally! I know that this may not be the tire of choice for many mudders here, but as Doc well knows, here in the PRK, once it quits raining, our dirt turns to rocky concrete with sand sprinkled over the top. These are supposed to be great on the street, wet or dry and also, great trail tires. That's what I'm looking for. "More dirt than a motard/supermoto, less dirt than a knobby". 8) Mostly, it will be an 85 mpg commuter and camping rig.

I can't wait to try them out! "Beef. It's What's for Dinner."

My countershaft sprocket better hurry up! :( That's all that's left now!

Your new bike looks great, 2LZ! Thanks for promoting the acquisition of a spoke wrench. 8) For safety's sake, every rider with spoked wheels should regularly inspect, and tighten his spokes.

You are creating the perfect Q! I like those tires. Seem to be similat to the Avon Gripsters I ran on my XR250L I had when I was in the PRK. They worked well on the street, and in the forests and the Sierra.

FWIW though, although they don't look real cool, the stock Kendas were good too. I ran them on my Q until they were 50% worn and replaced them with Dunlop knobbies.

In your case I'd simply replace the bad rear TT with the stock Kenda tube and call it victory.

ALSO, I pinched my first tube in quite a while on Ron's HSUN 200 the other day. I don't get it, I did everything right (it seemed) and the tire went on easy....

Oh well.

You got that right, Doc! I was actually very impressed with the stockers, especially once I saw how substantial they were upon removal. They're superior to the 'no name brand' tires on Mrs 2LZ Hondanoid....and that's where they will end up, in time. I blew up the Kenda tubes and drown them in my garage sink and no leaks upon removal!
Mrs 2LZ now got a full backstock of new tires and tubes!

I know what you mean. There's sometimes no rhyme or reason to a pinched tube. You can be as careful and methodical as possible. Sometimes it's just 'your day', I think. :x Also, those Tuff tubes are so thick, it was almost a challenge to get them all inside the tire! There was noticably less room inside over a normal tube once I started using the spoons. I really had to watch not to nip a bit of it. I guess I didn't watch close enough.....

As usual....I got 'roughly' 180+cc's out of each one. Refilled them with 200cc's of JP1 10W. Has worked great in all my bikes...large cruisers and CB's .
2LZ, the manual (that Andrew provided for us) actually calls for 330 ml in each fork. It does show that there is a measurement that you can do, however. Is this the way you did it?

Nope.....and I just typed a very detailed answer to your question that my PC just ate when I tried to post it....so I'm going to bed before it goes out the window.
I'll try again tomorrow.
