Yup!

I see kits up to 351cc will bolt right up. I have also heard that the motor is overengineered enough that the higer displacement kits do not effect longevity and reliability.

I plan on leaving mine stock for a while, then maybe a Q4 pipe and jet kit. Usually I leave my bikes stock, we'll see.

There is something to be said for a very quiet bike that can sneak through areas where it is not 100% supposed to be  . Also I like to be quiet so as not to scare horses I come up to. Finally it does not scare the game away from the hunters who also share the land I ride on.

BTW, did you know you can get a factory kit to up the cc's to 300? Apparently the KLX300 and KLX 250S share the same engine. The 250 just has a smaller bore so the KLX300 top-end will bolt right up.
That's very interesting, Craig! I wonder why Kawasaki didn't use the larger, 300cc engine? :?:

How much do the 351cc kits cost, Bill? :?:

That's a good question. The bottom end and tranny are the same. It's a bolt on job, no other modifications needed. I think it even runs the same cam and carb.

This modification, as well as boring and re plating the original cylinder out to as much as 351cc is common on the KLX forums.

This leads me to believe that in stock form this is a very solid reliable and overengineered motor. :P

I took the KLX out for it's first longish (50 miles) off road adventure today!

It rocks :P ! What a great little bike! For whatever shortcomings it has being the little guy on the highway it makes up for them in the dirt. This is truely the elusive 'dirtbike with lights'.

It was another nice Spring day. Roger and I had fun. There was a nice sunset. God is good. Life is good.

Beautiful bike Doc! So Roger has a KLR and a Q? Looks like beautiful riding weather... No snow!

Cheers,
Stew

I think they grow pineapples along the Columbia River where Doc lives. In the rest of the Pacific Northwest we call Bill's area the "banana belt." Now if you want to see snow, come to Idaho, Stew!

Thanks for posting the great photos, Doc! Please tell; what are the stock tires supplied with your new KLX250S? Your bike looks great, and I think you were very wise to choose the color red.

Yup. I advised Roger to buy a $1,500 )or so) Q from Andy last year. He continues to enjoy that trouble free motorcycle. (Except the obligitory broken speedo cable, replaced with a Suzuki part). He added the KLR to his stable last month. Bless his heart he got the motorcycle bug bad. He's never been on one until a year and a half ago when I let him ride my last Q. It was likt giving gasoline to a fire. He just took off with a love for motorcycles. He also has a nice Harley, and now he's talking about getting an XR! He doesn't like ATV's though.

The weather in the Southeastern Washington desert/Columbia River Basin is indeed different than much of the Northwest. Our average annual rainfall is about 7.5 inches (depends on which source you looks at). That's the same as places like Palm Springs, CA. Our winters are fairly mild and our summers are hot and dry. It's pretty nice. Believe me I don't take it for granted. It's a blessing to ride pretty much all year round. We do get cold snaps but they don't last long. We got down to the single digits a couple of times in November or December this year

The tires on the KLX are Dunlop 605's. I can report they perform well on the street and on dry heard surfaces. Rock, gravel, packed dirt, and dry grassy areas. Not so hot in the sand, but what tire does?

Roger sounds like a great guy!

P.S. I can't find the D605 tire on the Dunlop website, Doc. I guess that tire is only available on new motorcycles. :?

Roger is a great guy. He's also one of the best family men I've ever met. If I ever decide to get into a relationship again (no time soon....) he'll be my role model.

Spud here are some tire pics for you. I thought you'd be interested. It seems to be a great pattern. I'm happy with it so far.

A paddle, but I don't think your DOT guys would look the other way on that.

Boy, I sure wouldn't want to be running a paddle tire on the street!

The tires look great, Doc. However, I can't find them on the Dunlop website, so I guess they are only available on new motorcycles.
