Yup, 7 or 8 coats and then 2 coats of flat clearcoat, I need to put a couple more coats of clearcoat over the decals but then I'm done for awhile... I do have some Renthal decals I may put on the swingarm but I don't want to go overboard...

Looks good to me. I work at a place where we sell Lifans and we just got in one of those last week. I put it together and took it for a test ride and was surprised. I'm a fan of dual sports and it rode nice and smooth to me (but I can't compare it to any of the new Jap DS's).
Anyway, we got a red but I wanted a blue, so I thought of buying it (if they'll give me a good deal on it) and painting it up glossy black to go nicely with the flat black. It's nice to see basicly what I was thinking of doing. Off topic but how many miles have you put on it and have you had any problems with it? |

Savage, MDSuave13 did his red GY-5 in semi gloss black, he will chime in soon...Kidding Suave... As far as miles go, I haven't done the conversion from KM to actual miles but I'd say about 400 give or take and not a problem (knock on wood) yet, runs like a top...

HERE I AM!!!! WAIT FOR ME GUYS!!!
haha, d!ck... ;-) yes, me and ambassador have the flat black lifans.. hes the blue guy, im the red guy... its like tron we both used the krylon fusion paint, he went flat, i went satin black.. it is holding up very well, some spots are chipping a bit on the hand guards, but its kinda trial and error with this, i figure i'll end up repainting it again sometime after summer.

Yeah, mine is starting to chip off the handguards too, but I only put 2 coats on them and never sanded them before hand, I figured the same as my forkguards, they're gonna get messed up anyway...

Got the bike today. Really want to get that 5 off of there but they cleared over the dang decals.
I suppose I could take a razor blade to cut them off but I assume it would be a big PITA to get it all off and still have it looking good. Hmm... |

savage go to the gallery and look in my pics, i had similar problems, my decals were cleared over also. I had to use a razor to get an edge of the decal up, then peel it off.. once i did that i had to sand the panel with 220 grit paper to make it smooth as the rest of it.. Then i painted the panels up.
Looks MUCH better, worth the 3 days (3 hours an evening) or so of work i spent on it.

Here's a pic of my bike with the Krylon Fusion Gloss black. Just like MD and ambassador said, I have had the paint around the handguards chip off. I can say for me it is from hitting things when riding on trails and stuff.

Actually, I missed under the front fender, and behind the fairing (plastic around the headlight). It gives a little contrast witht the seat at certain angles!
