I have not heard of any Zong owners reporting problems with their CDI units. However, it would probably be a good idea to have a spare CDI handy for your Zongshen motorcycle. The Zong CDI is not compatible with with the CDI units used on most Chinabikes; therefore, it will be harder to acquire.

The Zong CDI is also unlikely to be compatible with the Yamaha TW200 CDI. Even if it were compatible, most Zong owners would probably not buy the Yamaha TW200 CDI unit; it costs $120. 8O

Received the new CDI today. Installed it, bike started right up. Once i got the bike back together i took it for a spin. Runs fine EXCEPT it breaks up over 6000rpms! Emailed the seller, he's sending out another.

ouch... researching this issue/system before i buy a bike

I'm definitely getting a Zong, but i wonder if all these bikes can do the same that the Shineray Long March did: TWO CDI units installed cooperatively for a backup-- if i buy a spare when i get my bike i may try to fit it in there along side the installed one... any thoughts?

Usually under the seat and it is a small black box with one electrical plug on it. About 2" long by 1" by 1".

*Update*

Installed the replacement CDI and everything is 100% once again.

Also took care of some maintenance while i had the bike apart.

Adjusted the valve using the .05 and .08mm specs. The valve cover just clears the frame when removing it from the engine, the fins did not need to be trimmed as with some other makes. The rubber valve cover gasket was reusable, lightly oiled it hoping to be able to reuse it again. Before the adjustment the intake was too tight and the exhaust too loose.

Removed the swing arm bolt, it was dry. When I had received the bike I replaced the straight grease fitting with an angled one and greased it but it didn't seem to take the grease. Applied grease to the bolt and reinstalled. Seems to ride smoother but it could just be wishful thinking.

Removed and check the air filter, there was dirt residue on the intake tube beyond the air filter. Applied foam weatherstripping to the filter where it meets the intake tube and modified the strap to hold the filter tighter. Cleaned and oiled the filter.

Installed a 51 tooth rear sprocket. Having a larger 110/100 rear tire it gives a ratio close to the stock tire and a 45 tooth rear.

Bug, that was my experience too on the Hanma I have. I ended up pulling the swing arm bolt, and both axles and just plowing grease into the holes which resulted in substantial lessening of *sticktion* and improving the ride a great deal. Oh, one other thing, that little hanger that holds the rear shock and attaches to the swing arm benefits from the same treatment

Now initial shock movement is MUCH more smooth cause it takes less force to start it moving.

Also, I already posted about Waldo's air filter being totally monkeyed up inside the box. :( I went to a UNI filter, made sure it was sealing up against that manifold lip in the box, greased the hell out of that connection to ensure no leakage and instantly had a vastly improved idle -so much so, I had to turn down the idle speed and mod the mix a bit).

Sounds like I better get a backup CDI unit tho, "just in case" .

btw, what kind of light switch did you get on yours? as I posted in another thread, I can turn mine completely off, park, high/low etc., and the stock bulb seemed plenty bright for the speeds this bike will go.

By the sound of it I have the same switch. I can't comment about the bulb because i have never been out after dark. :(

Next time I get a chance I will disassemble my rear suspension and lube it. Thanks for the tip.
