I vote keep the Hawk, especially with all the doo-dads you've done to it. There's no better option on a vehicle than "paid for". The CG also seriously sips fuel for an internal combustion motor. Besides, you fit on it! Just my .02.

Trust me, I have been thinking that as well. The only complaint I have with the Hawk is it ia just big and awkward. I may get an ebike and simply keep the Hawk and use both.

Lets assume for what if calculation sake that if you got something like a new KPV and selling your Hawk for 1K that the difference is 2.5K after delivery etc., not counted the taxes/registration, etc. Then whatever your price of gas is, if we assume 3/gallon that is 833 gallons of gas if converting extra spending difference into fuel gallons. Assume you get 70 mpg on the Hawk that is 58,310 additional new miles you can travel on the Hawk before you break even with a KPV purchase before spending anything else on it, including first tank of gas. Replace all the numbers with what you know is more realistic but that's basically how I approach a what if.

My PE28 carbureted, ported, cammed, and all around modified Hawk, on its best day, gets around 60mpg. I usually average 58 to 60.at least. If I put a pz30/vm26 back on it that would jump up a few mpg.

I ain't getting a kpv. once again, double what I am looking to spend, IF I do sell the Hawk. I am looking at the typical 150cc gy6 air cooled.cheapie scooters as an option. They generally manage about 70mpg.

I wouldn't be switching for the sake of mileage tho, even though the scooter would be better. It's also about use and convenience.

It's also simply about trying something new.

Oh, I plan on keeping most of my ICE vehicles. Selling the Hawk wouldn't leave me bikeless.

Since you asked... my first thought is to put the Hawk up for sale, walk the 4.5 miles round trip to work, and spend a little money on some work out equipment (your workout is built into your day and will save time and more money). Put the money aside you would have spent in an interest earning account, and give yourself some time to make the right decision.

I lift weights and do cardio 5 days a week for an hour plus. Not sure how much more working out I need to fit in.

I also have my 2 stroke bike I built. I just don't entirely trust it for commuting though. I am sure it would do fine. Darn thing can go 45 lol.

I have considered converting it over to.an ebike with a mid drive kit.

So, I still want to build myself and ebike, but that will be a separate project. I have been thinking it over for a while now and just decided to keep my Hawk and make some changes for it to be a bit better around town.

I still have all of the stuff I need to do a round headlight conversion, so I am going to go forward with that.

To help with engine temps and the shorter trips I am going to shelf the oil cooler for now.

I am also going to remove my JerryHawk250 brand skid plate to shave some weight and help the case cooling a bit with the oil cooler being gone.

I also want to try a new air filter and intake idea with the pe28 carburetor to see if it can help stop or smooth out the throttle transitions without affecting power.

Also looking at maybe upgrading to a larger lithium battery too. Found a couple that should work in the battery box with a little tweaking.

I still really do want a scooter though, and have for some time. Maybe for another day.

Think about spending a touch more for the Vitacci Clash. The fuel injection is worth it with Lifan motor. Also 80 to 90mpg riding conservatively. Has a similar look to the Spark with the 14" tires. I almost got the Spark ordered and they dropped the price on the Clash that was already in stock. Drove 2 hours and picked it up.

[QUOTE=Megadan;390069]The ebike thing is mainly just appealing for the lack of neednto register or insure. Not that either of those things are expensive for my Hawk either.

Here in Australia the E'bike/scooter scene is getting contentious as many delivery riders and non road savvy users are getting smashed up and causing road havoc...To the point where the guberment is factoring in the need for a license and maybe vehicle registration...

Here 50cc or less does not require a motorcycle license but vehicle registration...

I live too rural to make and E bike viable...If I lived Urban then I would totally be on the E scene as hover boards never happened....

I was actually looking at the clash too. Delivered right now it's about 200 more, which is reasonable. How do you like it so far?

They are still trying to figure out fhe laws here. They do have some regulations in place, but not much. Omaha isn't a very bike friendly place to begin with, ai there isn't a whole lot of traffic other than the kids and grown kids out fooling around for fun on bikes like fhe Surron, which are just electric motorcycles if we are honest.

With the Clash it's a bigger motor and starts easy in cold weather. No problem keeping up with traffic. I have over 2000 miles on it and haven't had any trouble. Added a few accessories and windshield. Where I ride is near the Malls and not over 50mph and get 90+mpg 93 non eth most of the time. Because filling up is so cheap why not use the best. You can't forget also people who see it want to talk about it. That's also a plus. Mudflap also has one. There are several threads on here where he talks about his with some pictures.

That is the kind of stuff I want to hear. I know like anything Chinese and cheap it will have some issues here or there with quality, but as long as the basic mechanics of it are solid, and the EFI system is reliable, I would be content. I guess my biggest curiosity is how I might fit being such a big guy in terms of height. I have heard they are a bit on the small side. I guess I might have to go to the local chinese bike dealer in my city and see what they have.
