I'm far more embarrassed of how my fat ass looks on a China Bike than the bike itself.

I can think of something very embarrassing on the flip side of the equation.. riding past that broken down Harley that we all have encountered at one time or another

That ain't no lie. My brother-in-law owns two Harley's. One or the other is always in the shop and all he does is complain how much it cost him to get it fixed. His last repair cost more than i paid for my Hawk.

that's why I ride a honda Davidson lol. Single pin 1300cc v twin that sounds and looks like a harly but is never in the shop. hell of a lot cheaper too.

all I have ever got was interest in the storm when I'm out riding it. Most people like it. I think I have got more shit from people riding my drz.

I've never been embarrassed by riding a CB. If someone says something, I just smile and say I paid $1300 delivered for a brand new bike. As for my Vulcan, I just smile and say I only paid $2000 for it. Either of those lines are usually met with a comment of "wow", or "can't beat that".

I bought my Goldwing for a few hundred bucks, spent several months taking it apart and fixing 35+ years of neglect, use, and stagnation and a couple grand in parts and modernizations (charging system, lighting, etc.) All in, I think I had 3k into it including buying it, fixing it, and doing the paint job to the panels, tank, and frame. It was a reliable daily ridden bike for the few years I had it, and it got more looks and attention than almost every other bike I have owned.

Mine is the one on the left (orange, because I like orange)

I regret selling it quite often.

The real point is, you don't even need to spend a lot to have a bike that draws attention. Just need to put in a little work. Guys on $35,000 CVO's and $1000 ragged out sport bikes held together with zip ties all loved that bike. I got more thumbs up, questions, and nods of approval on that bike than anything else I have ever ridden or owned lol.

I can see why you had questions and attention! Aside from doing a nice job on her, I am surprised because that’s not at all what I pictured when you talked about the Goldwing.

I had been picturing a beast like this. Ha ha

Any Goldwing in good condition is a lot of fun.

The Goldwing actually started life as something closer to a sport touring bike than it did the massive land yacht cross country machines they turned into. The GL1000 and 1100's were all naked bikes from the factory. No luggage or windshields except those offered by the aftermarket. Mine was a 75 GL1000, and a fairly low serial number too.

The early 1000's from 75-77 had the biggest bore carburetors, head ports, valves, and cam profiles. They are happiest in the top half of the RPM range all the way past 9k rpm.

Over the years they kept shrinking everything to bring the power curve down to the lower RPM ranges and increasing the displacement of the engine, then added 2 cylinders.

I agree. I am partial to the early small 4 bangers more, but even the big 6cyl bikes can be a lot of fun to ride. All of them were over engineered and over built machines, which is evident by the number of 70's and 80's wings still out there that can be road worthy with very little work. The only thing really holding them back anymore is parts availability.

Took the KPM to the taco Tuesday meet. Everyone loves the bike and had questions about it. Especially since SRK Cycles did a video on it a few days ago. Lol. Realized it's time to do the valves, though. 3335 miles on it, and she could barely make 60mph. I've never checked them valves. Lol.
