Sorry but your apples to apples test is probably in the wrong forum. Your comparing a 11.5 compression motor with fuel injection and ajustable timing supermoto to a 8.1 compression carb true dual sport with knobby tires. 4 valves to 2 valves almost 50 year old design dual cams to a Single Cam With Single Lobe For Both Intake And Exhaust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please educate yourself before continuing this.

I think post number 5 said it all. The best apples to apples for you. 1985 to 1989 klr 250 line up beside that at 28 hp. 33 years ago they put out a dual sport which few have duplicated.

My '17 Storm is accurate until about 30 mph, then it's off by about 5 mph after that, the closer you get to winding out 5th gear it's 8-10 mph off. So 60 mph is really only 50 mph and 50 mph is only 40. Below 30 mph in town and it's solid gold.

I had a '90 DR250s, and with my friend riding it and me following in my 5.0 Capri, both speedometers saw 90+ mph on the 118 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley in the L.A. area-on two different occasions. Granted this was in the days looong before GPS (cell phones were around but rare), but both vehicles indicated the same mph after we had stopped. I recall him hitting 70+ mph on city streets (suburbs) with me chasing him. He was a much better rider who owned a CR500 which I can proudly claim I never dropped when riding it, including the numerous accidental wheelies I pulled riding on dry lake beds, but that is another topic for another thread...

Those of you who still have the stock speedo like I do, did you lubricate the speedometer cable? Mine is accurate up to 60mph (that's as fast as I have had it up to). Just a thought...

Cool analogies and all but compression and valve efficiency have zero to do with crank geometry and differentials A.K.A. speed.. Stroke efficiency only matters with handling grades to avoid destroying valves from "bogging down", so on the subject of why they won't do 80MPH on a 0.0 grade: compression ratio and valve efficiency have a negligible role..

You can of course argue the point since it has any effect on it though.. If we wan't to discus why they won't maintain 40MPH on a 12% mountain grade that's a different story..

This thread subject comes up time after time , and no offense at all intended but I /LOL
every time you guys start debating why a sub $1500 Chinese Enduro with a 20 year old engine design won't go 80mph up the freeway .They are great bikes at what they were designed to do, but that was never one of them .Just sayin'.

really there is no bike to compaire a Hawk to...
single lob cam/push rod...Honda built the CG110
as a very simple low cost commuter...Honda put the
CG motor in a CB125 running gear... sold it for near half the
prise of the CB125...
Thats what the Chinese picked up on... very easy
cheap motor design to copy....

The Honda CG engine was first sold in 1975 which makes it a 43 year old design.

You can find a $1500 bike that will do 80 and if your Hawk/Storm/Enforcer/Magician etc does 80 you probably have more $1500 in it and countless hours getting it there.

I think most of us are looking to make it into something it's not, That happens when you get involved in modding. I'm trying to look at this bike differently now, It KICK starts with no choke, Idles beautifully , the speedo is spot on,more power with a open exhaust and I'm liking the sprocket setup from the factory. I would like to do more but I need to realize I've reached a point where more speed and power are not really in this bikes DNA.

I do need a usb port and Gel battery!

Head Scratching

I have a Roketa 200/250cc ( not sure which one it is) I was told it is a 250cc but I order parts for the 200cc... anyhow.. I have no problems running 80... I haven't ran 80 recently because I need to do some chain adjustments... but she runs 80 with no problems.... I am also running a PZ 30 carb on it... but I am sure that is not doing it... it's just a great bike...

It's probably a 200 which i think is actually 199cc or a 230 which is actually 229.5cc, IIRC. Most of the Roketa enduros and adult size dirt bikes I have seen made before '16 or '17 were 200s.
