So did the front wheel bearings today, man were they toast. The one that was on the weather facing side from being left to sit put up a good fight and came out under full protest. But I finally got everything out, cleaned and rebuilt the speedo drive which was roached out as well. Turns out a snap ring in the drive broke and had all little pieces in there intermittently jamming the drive, think that is why my speedo cable snapped. But it's smooth spinning now, just need the new cable.

The best thing is no more God awful hi pitched squeal every time i hit the break. I thought it was the breaks but think it was the actual wheel because everything was so rusted and just gone. Its dead quiet now (yes it still stops).

So things have being going well with Swamp Thing, working on getting the carb dialed in and it's kind of kicking my but (see other thread). That said I'm making progress, had him out today and we go up to 50mph with stock gearing and nothing fell off .

I think if I change the front sprocket 55/60 is attainable and that would be just fine for me and what I need.

Well I was making good progress on my carb tuning then this happened on my last high-speed test run haha. Rear brake rod snapped, caught the ground and made a mess! Good thing it didn't come back and ruin the spokes.

Anyway up until then it was running pretty good. Had added a washer to the slide needle and it really help with the mid range. Still had some stumble so was going to add one more but guess I'll get to that later.

One problem I do still have is a dripping carb. I pulled the bowel, checked the floats cleaned the pin and was okay for a while but overflow dripping again.

Oh well, and for cthe record had ST up to 55mph with the stock gearing lol.

Holy cow! Never seen that before! Losing brakes is a bit different than losing power.....

From the picture, it looks like the bolt holding the brake torque rod fell out, and this caused the brake operating rod to fail.

No, I was tinkering and disconnected it apart to get at the bent rod.

Oh, OK. Are you going to make a new brake rod?

Yeah I'll get it back together, just had some other things take me away from the bike for a while. Also want to add a second washer to t carb and see if that take the hesitation back out now that I have the airbox back on. Ran great with one washer and the open carb.

It's looking good, but I think the wheel barrel is getting a little to close. You should keep an eye on that or you might end up with a litter of green wheel barrels that have yellow wheels...
