I checked that out already, thanks for the lead anyway. I was wanting more info on the dong fang 250cc enduro. I'm sure mechanically speaking it'llbe fine. I was thinking build quality, ride quality. What type of engine it uses. That sort of thing. I'll find out soon enough

I'm sorry  I thought they were trying to sell you the bobber. That 250 is relatively new. It is probably decent, but its price seems to be a little steep. Thanks for volunteering to review it for all of us

As far as the TMEC, Mr. Liu had already flown to China. The sales guy at Excalibur told me that the new dual sports will be the new generation, and will be a little different in looks.
I e-mailed Excalibur through their website and received the following reply.

Quote:
Hi Keith,

Thanks for your inquiry. We have all new 2013 model arriving on Feb. 5. Please contact us by then.

Talk to you again.
I'm not sure if 'by then' they mean to call before Feb 5 or on the date. It was nice to get a personal answer from Wade though.

I received an email from Wade Liu of Excalibur. He said that they received the container of 2013 TMEC200-1 enduro bikes. They have both the knobby tire and street tire versions. Price is $1599 plus shipping. Graphics look different than previous models but bike looks basicly the same.

Nowadays that looks like a fair price.

I agree with FastDoc. If you want a new, Chinese motorcycle, the TMEC 200 looks like a good option.

However, after you add in shipping costs for the TMEC, the price is approaching my cutoff price of $2,000 for a Chinese motorcycle. If one is willing to spend $2,000, he can usually find a lot of great deals on slightly used, Japanese bikes. For example, I bought my 2005 Honda XR650L with 7,800 miles on the odometer for $2,000. I recently bought a 2004 Honda CRF250X with 140 hours on the clock for $2,100.

Granted, both of my Hondas were exceptional deals. However, I also see a lot of Honda CRF230, Yamaha TW200, and Yamaha XT230 bikes for sale at prices less than $2,000.

The weather here is cold, so I'm busy shopping for parts to dual sport the bike as quickly as possible. I will start a new thread in the near future. For a preview, here's a photograph from the Craigslist advertisement.

Awesome Spud!

I bet it looks even better with a 'Famous Potato' plate on it. 8)

We look forward to your adventures with your new motorcycle. May God protect you while riding it and may you appreciate His creation all the more from its saddle.

Yep.

I paid $1,400 or so for my YZF. I put $700 into it with modifications, additions, repairs, and street legalization so about $2,100. It's a lot of bike for $2,100 . I can ride it to work, trail ride all day, and I will be entering it in a 100 mile desert enduro race in April :P .

In the time I've owned it, about 18 months and almost 100 hours (that's a lot, BTW) I have spent no money on repairs (since it's original investment in repairs, etc). It's maintenece costs have been trivial too.

Used Japanese bikes can be an excellent value, IF you are a CL shark. 8)

Cherry Yamaha XT225. $2,200.

http://yakima.craigslist.org/mcy/3600949781.html

There are dozens of these deals on CL at any given time.

Not long ago decent Chinabikes (GY2's and 5's) could be had for $1,000 or less delivered. Zongs and Q's were regularly $1,500 or less. :P

These bikes were great values then, even competitive with used Japanese bikes. I have owned 5-6 Chinabikes and I liked them very much. The Q's I still wish I had.

However, the distributers/dealers appear to have gotten greedy and largely priced themselves out of competition.

Indeed, I bought my Zong for $950, new, in-the-crate. I paid an additional $238 to have it shipped to me. For that price, my Zong was an exceptional deal.

Other forum members bought new Zongs for $1,000, delivered! Many members of these forums also bought QLink XF200 bikes for $1,500, delivered. Those were all superb deals!

However, now that the surplus stock has been depleted, the Chinese motorcycle dealers are getting greedy. They are almost charging Japanese prices for Chinese motorcycles! 8O
