I didn't group them together, Edison did.

The last quote was referencing his athiesm.

Yes you did.

And I know it was referencing his atheism. That was the point of my question, you grouped antisemitism and atheism together, then quoted his atheism. So he was an atheist? So what? I was wondering what your point was?

I didn't quote his antisemitism. That's not the sort of thing he would have put into writing. A quick Google search will provide references. Many are in conjunctiuon with his relationship with Henry Ford.

He was a good inventor and a hard worker. All I'm saying is that I don't respect him or put much value in his opinions.

But that wasn't what I was asking about, I was asking why you stated he was a known atheist when you stated he was known antisemitic. They aren't the same thing, but you make them out like they are both held in the same opinion/level by you... That's he's a bad person because he's anti-semetic, and a bad person because he's an atheist.

That's what I was trying to say.

He was both. A person can be more than one thing. I'm a doctor and a pilot. Not necessarly related but both true.

I didn't say he was a bad person either, only that I don't admire him or his opinions.

We are all bad people. All sinners. I don't think God 'grades' us on our perception of the severity of our sin. We all need Grace.

Anyway Jim, I'm done for tonight so goodnight.

Over and out.

I don't think you're getting my point, I didn't say he was or wasn't... I'm not an expert on Edison. What I was saying was the way you said it, that he "was a known anti-Semite and athiest", such as to say Edison isn't worthy of your respect, because he's antisemetic, and he isn't worthy of your respect because he's an atheist.

This is not in response to Jim and Doc's discussion, but it reminded me of my own experience.

Jim, thanks for your comment. I know first hand how natural it feels to fall into "church speak" when I'm around other Christians. For the purposes of this post, I'll use the terms Christian and non-Christian.

We have a close friend at church who is an athiest, and she has helped us all to learn about how we are perceived by non-Christians. Without even realizing it, we can seem like we're excluding non-Christians from discussion, because it's so easy to gravitate towards assuming that everyone in the room has a common belief. Our friend's husband is a Christian, so you can imagine what it must be like for her to be around Christians all the time.

She's terrific. She comes to the chuch to listen to the message and to build relationships. She volunteers and she even gives tithes and offerings. She is remarkably sharp, and she keeps us in check because we want to be accessible to non-Christians. We definitely don't want to exclude anybody.

All that said, my favourite quote is one that has been modified to this: "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - Benjamin Franklin

Thanks guys. I hoped that my post would be well received; I struggled over it as I wrote it.
