Yes, definitely Rotax. Plus, they didn't implant Suzuki DR(Z) engine until 2002 or something thereabouts.

I rode an ATK with the Rotax. A beast! I loved it. Weird (interesting) bike too. :P

I have had a couple of the air cooled rotax singles - I really like them - easy to work on and any faults are easy to repair or preventative maintenance will stop happening. Only real weak spot is the starter sprag clutch on the electric start versions and kick starting any of them is definitely a knack

Thanks for the complements on the bike - an MT 500 with 350 Forks and disc brake and sidepanels.
I have to say I regret selling it but kick start only and designed for throwing out the back of a C130 (heavy!!). The weight was manageable but the kick start only could be a real problem on some of my off-road routes - Stalled in a 2 foot + deep mud hole - stuffed! Worse - some of my rides are badly rutted in places - stall when in a rut and you simply can not get enough swing on the starter before it hits the side of the rut - this is very unfunny. I mostly off road alone so these are real considerations - In many respects the gy5 does the job better - the left over paint from the 500 is why my 200 is olive drab! Still I do miss it - super comfortable and first class components - a real motorcycling land rover. Apologies for the thread Highjack  Frog |
