[QUOTE=newrider93;208906]Awesome thanks Spud. I was looking at the Krylon Fusion Paint. Saw it at my local Walmart. They had it all on sale for $4 a can.[/QUOTE
I was by wally w today and saw fusion also on sale, didn't get a price and I hope they are not closing it out. They had very little selection there. Fusion is a fantastic paint for plastics. I was considering a new look on mine. Just wonder if the clear is fuel proof. What I was considering is a new big clear gas tank and leave a stripe 1/4" wide or so on each side so you could see the fuel. Make the stripe in to a design where it is not so obvious. |

Did you use the Krylon Fusion Safety Orange (Pumpkin)? Your Hawk looks great!

I forget exactly what orange it was. I think it was pumpkin. It was the only orange krylon fusion Wal-Mart had.

If you are like me, I'm sure you are aware of a few imperfections nobody else will ever notice. In any event, your Hawk is a dirt bike, not a trailer queen.

Good choice of color, it looks great. Now the tricky part. Don't get any gas on it or it will peel up. From what I saw on another post, even the stock color peels. You can use a 2 part clear to fix it but that gets pricey. Just be aware of the issue when you fill up and all will be good.

I am currently waiting for the paint on my RX3 fuel tank to cure fully. After it cures, I am going to apply SprayMax 2K Clear Coat to the fuel tank. This 2K clear coat is both fuel and UV resistant.

Spud...Do you have a test piece of plastic that is painted with the fusion? To see how the 2k reacts? Or test it on a small plastic patch of the yamazong before the rx3

Of course, I will protect my lungs with an P95 respirator when I apply the SprayMax 2K Clear Coat. I will use a Gershon #8211P respirator I bought at Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/p95-mai...tor-66554.html

I sprayed the Spraymax over Kylon paint for my V65. It works as advertised. I sprayed the gas tank on a Saturday, applied the decals and cleared the next day. I used the gloss but really wanted to use the flat. I tried a flat clear in the past on another project but didn't like the finish as it was a little cloudy. A respirator is a must as the stuff is nasty. I used one from HF also and didn't have any problems.
Here's another option. A post on another site tells about using Minwax poly clear. The poster says that is fuel resistant and used it on his V65 with no problems. As I had some in a spray can I thought I would do a test. I use electrical box covers to test out paints and such. I sprayed one with black Rustoleum, dried it a little with a heat gun, then spayed it with the clear. I let it cure for about a week and then tested with gas. The clear and paint stayed on. Not a definant test but it showed promise. If I were to paint my bike like newrider did, I would do a more thorough test and if it worked, use the Minwax instead as the parts are not the tank but the side panels.
