It looks like the newer headlight would work better with the Cree Speedmetal light that I have because the high beam led points six o'clock straight down on the top of the wanna be projected light. The Canadian version looks like a nicer reflective surface.

Okay, that's great. I think H4 incandescent lights use the top surface of the reflector for high beam.

With the stock lights, 780 lumen aux lights and the 3000 lumen lights it looked like a 747 was about to land on the road Night or Day wasn't much difference! |

Anyone who installed a 55/65W halogen in your headlight, check for melting. I just checked mine and found some melting at the top, despite the ventilation hole in the back. You can see the bubbling and browning at the top and some warping (note the rainbow colors) along the back of the reflector.
The 65W high beam is only 3 inches from the top of the assembly. So even with ventilation cut directly behind the that area, it may not be enough to cool it down. My lamp is a Silverstar Ultra. I love the bright light, but I wonder if it puts out more heat than other halogens.

Here's a pic from a new headlight assembly. This is the new Canadian-approved headlight that I plan to test with a new LED in the near future.

Is the new LED bulb short enough to avoid contacting the bike's frame?

I just installed a 3000 lumen 5th Gen Cree in my RX3s shell
Funny thing is, there are two LED emiters on each side, and they are pointed at the sides of the reflector shell, not the top and bottom. 5th Gen have no fan. The chips are bonded directly to a thick copper strip that has copper braids attached. After mounting you splay the braids to increase surface area Seem bright as hell and well directed. Havent tried them on the road yet though. and after mounting, spread the braids out to fit in the shell I know it cant be mounted wrong. The adaptor for H4 only fits one way and then locked in Light assembly slides in on an o ring seal and twists to lock. |

I just did a test install and it barely clears. It may vibrate against the frame but I haven't ridden with it yet. I'll have pictures of the light pattern shortly.

I like the simplicity of this LED. Post pics of the light pattern when you can!

yes....they say they run cooler than the fan units as well, even when the braids are in an enclosure
