Oh man I wish I lived in Texas. I would be driving something made in the 60's or 70's. Here cars turn to rust in 7-10 years and dust in 15+ years. Never buy a car from New England. I guess it is the price to pay for safer roads. I try to get my cars washed after the roads clear up. I get the undercarriage wash, who knows it is probably all the same, it just makes me feel like I'm combating the salt a little.

You just quoted yourself. My guess is BF Goodrich tires. When I was in high school one of my friends dad owned a Dodge Lil Red Truck. It was like Smokey and the Bandit in one pickup and we got to drive it.
In the mid 80's most dads still had still had cars hidden under a tarp. I screamed like a little girl when drove an AMC AMX that had a modified 390 under the hood. I should been warned about pulling your underwear out of your butt.

After doing more research, I decided to check the fork stem and the swingarm bolt for grease. Thankfully the fork stem was greased but the swingarm bolt was not. Many oaths to the God of Thrown Wrenches later, the bolt was back in and I could continue my progress. All the lights and panels are now on! Though I realize now I should check the valve clearances. meaning...I should probably take the tank off. Ah well...I knew this first assembly would be a lot of one step forward, two steps back. I just want to get it right!

When I lived in Michigan, I found out I could become a state-certified motorcycle mechanic by paying $10 and taking their test. The example questions seemed pretty easy. I was curious, so I went and gave it a try. I passed! It actually was a pretty comprehensive test and more challenging than I thought. Too bad I moved to Indiana. I wonder what the Indiana cert is like...
