That 1 1/2 turns out is just a starting point. You need to adjust it one way or the other until you get the idle running smooth. You will need to adjust it with once the engine is fully warmed up. Valve adjustment is fairly simple. Motocheez has a good video on how to do it.

I actually just talked to motocheez on IM. He told me to go to a 115 main and two and a half turns on the mixture screw. So ill give that a try. This darn bike is frustrating as hell, at least for me, but its inspiring to see that other people have success with them!

Valves

Can you tell me if its ok to adjust the valves when the engine is cold? Right now I dont even want to start it up because it gets so hot. So come to think of it the bike probably needs a valve adjustment. That makes total sense and I should have checked them to begin with.

get the motor hot... running temp...
with it idling... turn the mixture screw in or out to get the
highest idle speed... then turn it back in 1/8 a turn...

then reset the idle on the idle adjuster..."throttle"
DONE...
the choke looks after the idle on a cold motor... not fiddling
with the mixture screw every time you start it...

I have not turned the mixture screw on my bike for over 2 years
because there is no need to...

Always adjust the valves when the engine is cold.

Dud you happen to look at the tune kit in my eBay? Gives you more pilot and main jet options as well as adj needle, Aldo valve adj took kut
These might very well make things much easier for you oh abd the tool to adj the carb screw to tube idle jet

Why turn it back in1/8 turn? To lean it just that little bit?

Before you go trying to adjust the idle mixture you need to set the valves. I don't have a video on it because it is so well covered already. It is a super easy job to do that doesn't take very long to do.

Motocheez is spot on with the 115 main jet. As far as the idle mixture, with that stock 40 pilot jet, you are going to likely find yourself well past 2 turns out to get the idle right with a pod filter and exhaust. Ideally you will want at least a 45 pilot jet, and even with that you will likely find yourself past 2 turns out - I am at 2 1/4 out with a 45.

Dan is right on the stock 40 jet with air filter and pipe I was at 3 turns out that's why I drilled it out to about a 45, maybe a hair larger and now at almost 2 turns out on the fuel screw below.

Again I would do the valves before anything.

Never a bad idea to take a break and clear your head. It can keep you from making mistakes.

when the mixture screw is set at maximin vacuum on the
emulation tube "long brass tube the main jet screws into"
the vacuum can fluctuate with float level changes....
so reducing it slightly helps stop this..... Or something like that..

I got this info from a book on carb tuning I read years ago
it seems to work...
