Check to see that you have a good spark. pull the plug, leave it connected to the spark plug wire, pin the threads on the cooling fins and crank it with lights dimmed. Should see a nice big spark happnin'

Air, Fuel, Fire. With a carbureted bike it is as simple as that. You have at least one off the bubble.
Pull the spark plug and insure you are getting spark. Check your fuel valve and insure you are getting fuel from the tank to the carb. (yes we have had several folks that did not know about the petcock) Make sure you are using the choke properly. (Not sure which direction is open and closed on your new carb. Yes we have had several folks that did not know what a choke was.) Make sure the air intake is clear. (They get crushed, bent and folded in shipping) If after this it will still not start, adjust your valves to spec. Usually they will start no matter how bad the valve adjustment is out.

Exactly... last resort is check the valves. Could have done that during setup, but better late than never

Update again, The bike can start and idle with no problem now but the exhaust pipe from the engine turns bright red and the bike smokes white. Either of these normal?
