I volunteered for 3 hours tomorrow and 3 hours on Sunday.

Yesterday, they had all the help they needed but that was before the asst. manager/head wrench was in a car/bike accident last night and will be taking some time off to heal. He got rear ended while stopped at a red light. Cracked ribs, a cracked vertebrae and lots of bruising. I don't have the whole story yet but, Jeff, the owner, is glad the old farts are stepping up.

Sundays are nuts at a bike shop located right on a trail. What with all the interruptions, it took me my entire shift and then some to do one tune up. The interruptions consisted mostly of flat tire repairs, though I did a few quick fixes, set up some rental bikes, and sold two used bikes.

Most folks are amazed that a flat tire repair only takes about five minutes. Peel the tire off the rim(usually with bare hands), inflate the tube to see if the leak is caused by a snake bite, spoke nipple, or a puncture, and go from there. We don't bother with repairing the tubes, just replace them. The old tubes get recycled.

I did replace a front wheel on a custom built E-Fatbike. Think Pee-Wee Hermans' rig on a double dose of steroids. It took two of us to get the heavy booger up into the repair stand and I had to angle the heavy pig front end down because the sooper dooper large ape hangers were hitting the ceiling.

All in all, though, it's been a hoot.
