Thanks, my bud has a timing light, I already took the cover off and the flywheel has "play in it". I can move the flywheel back and forth maybe about 1/16 of a turn and the crankshaft does not move. Is this play normal?

There should be no play between the flywheel and crankshaft.

Definitely not normal. Can you show us a pic of the flywheel?

I'm having trouble uploading pictures but it looks like the the starter gear on the crankshaft has play in it.

Did you check the gaps between the changed component and the original component? This happened to me with a scooter. Though, not as severe because the part(even though it was the same part number) had a slightly different teeth gap than the original and did not fit on the spline. That engine was a QMB139.
Though, the two subjects are completely different. It can still happen. Sometimes they don't machine the part to the original spec but sell it as so. |

Ok, so it's just the gear that has play, and not the flywheel?

Yes the gear has the play, I looked closely and its not the flywheel. I think i may order a new stator, I don't have the old on to measure anymore.

Would I even get spark if the tolerances of the stator was off, I know I have spark just not at the right time. The stator actually came off a Chinese knock of Lifan and it ran fine until one day.

You might still have spark, because it relies on the magnetic pickup. On that note, is there any noticeable damage to the pickup?

IMHO the next step should be to get hold of a strobe type timing light and determine for sure that the ignition timing is off. Throwing money at new parts is a waste.

I was wondering do you see the black plastic piece? Do that have to be align straight up and down with the coil.
