Crazy how things like that always seem to happen?! At the time it happens, you always think "I'll replace it with one just like it" and of course, that never happens. I had a '74 Electra that I totaled which sadly, wasn't even mine--it was my parents' car, and my father loved it--I just used it as a teenager to and from school. At least, it was the fault of the other driver who turned left right in front of me. My dad got a settlement check for $7k or so (I was slightly injured and it was L.A., so there were lawyers involved, and the car was valued at $1500--this happened in '86), but he never did buy another one.

My friend inherited his grandfathers '86 Regal (plain, old person version, not turbo, LOL); near perfect condition--got stolen in the early 90's because gangbangers in the L.A. area coveted this car and the ones like it (Olds Cutlass and of course Chevy Monte Carlo) for the two-door bodystyle.

Whoh Sport Rider, your making me work for this. How bout , say, when you were about 8 years old in the 60' (i guess, don't know your age ). Show us a picture of your childhood automobile. Otherwise, thanks for playing. I was just thinking about how big our family car seemed to me when I was a kid.

Wow, what a fast car (in my mind, and for the time)! I remember all the rich people getting blown away in their rich, old money cars (Mercedes, BMW were the primary cars of the day for Californians with money). Ha ha ha--eat the rich!
Oh this car was fast. I can remember being pinned to the back seat when he would floor it. He bought it 2nd hand from a lady who's husband had died. She didn't know a thing about the car. He picked it up for $1600. He stuck a holley duel feed carb and had to add a electric fuel pump. he bowls would actually run out of fuel at around 110- 120 mph. Took him forever to figure out why it was cutting out. Once he put the electric fuel pump it would get up to 140 +- before it got to squirrely on him.

My 1st truck was a 1970 Ford F100. 302 v8, 3 on the tree, Power steering and brakes ( took all my power to steer and stop) , AC whats that? and AM radio whoohoo! lol My dad found it for me. I was only 17. So we went look at it. It was all faded and had a pile of trash behind it. I'm thinking OMG what did he find? When I got close and looked inside it was like brand new. It had 34,000 miles on it. So a lady came out and I asked how much? $500 but it will need a starter. I looked at my dad then looked at her and said , I'll take it. Now this is the 1st time I ever drove a stick and we had to push start it to get it home. Made it home with out it dying on me. Crash course on the Standard shift. We went out and bought a rebuilt starter for $20. After cleaning and waxing it up t looked like a brand new truck. I rolled it for about 5 years until I could afford a new truck.

Some more eye candy

My other brothers first car was a 67 mustang fast back with the 390. This car could actually get 1 wheel off the ground. My dad had found it at a use car lot for $1000. He asked me do you think your brother would like it? I'm walking around it and saw the 390 n the fender and the dual exhaust. I'm like yeah. lol My dad went took it for a test drive. He stopped at a stop sign and said hold on and stomped it. We left 2 black marks and a cloud of smoke and a mark in my pants . That thing was fast but scary. I tried to buy it off him when he sold it but he wouldn't sell it to me because he said I would kill myself with it. He was probably right. Not the actual car but similar and same color.

LOL my dad did the same thing with his 55 chevy. He got about 2 block and saw a ladies hat on the seat and realized he took the wrong car. Both my dad and I had bought each a new 77 Ford f150 about a week apart. The keys worked on both trucks.

We had several cars over the years (most of them junk), but this was my favourite. 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III. Power seats, climate control, cruise, tilt, automatic headlight dimmer, 460, many other toys. Ours was silver with a red leather interior.

We had quite a few cars when I was a kid. Dad would get something with a few 'issues' cheap and fix it up. Usually it would be something simple. He'd run that until he got bored with it, someone offered the right amount of money for it, or he found something he liked better.

I can remember as far back as a light blue 53 Merc four door. By the time my brother was born, kid number three, Dad moved to wagons. I remember a white 54 Nash wagon and I think the only thing I really recall about it was the hood was always up and Dad swearing a lot. Between the 54 Nash and the 59 Rambler, though, was a gorgeous 56 Merc woody wagon, the same color as this one.

Somewhere, there is a photo of my 3 year old self helping my Dad with the brakes on it.

After the 59 Rambler, there was a red 67 AMC Ambassador wagon, which was my Dads' first brand new car. It was also the first with an automatic in it. That was followed by the last car they had while I was still at home. It was a brown 71 Ambassador wagon that was an ex Kenosha County Sheriff Squad. It had a brand new 401 engine in it and AC. I recall a label on the dash that said 'Do not exceed 102 mph in 2nd gear'. That car went like stink.

Now, it seems there's a new vehicle every time I visit my Dad.
