That is a nice find! Before I bought my TT I was looking all over for one of those or any dual sport for that matter and couldn't find anything which is why I ended up getting the TT. I think that what I'm going to do is get another set of wheels and run street tires like the Sportsman Class Super Moto guys do and then have another set of dirt tires for when I want to play in the dirt since I mainly use it as a commuter and I don't want to use up my dirt tires on the pavement. I've put 9K miles on it since June 14th and I've already went through the stock tires and I'm halfway through a set of Shinko 244's and I have a set of 705's waiting for when the 244's are worn out.

So the Green Meanie waited patiently, tucked in cozy under her welding blanket until I was off the clock today....
I first installed the kickstand.... Then got a steel plate and set up a make-shift motorcycle jack, had my buddy steady her while I jacked her up, and hung the front rim, speedo unit, and brake caliper. I hung the shock plastics, installed the mirrors, confirmed a natural comfy position for the handlebar controls and tightened all the components, changed the oil, removed the seat and FluidFilmed every electrical connection I could find, inside and out. (In my field, I've learned that Fluid Film creeps into connections and will prevent corrosion in THE NASTIEST ENVIRONMENTS you could put electronics through, so naturally I soaked EVERY connection on my 18C front to back.) I then went through every obvious place pulling bolts out and threadlocking them, torquing them back into place. I installed the battery, tossed in a couple gallons of gas, set the choke at 1/2, and she fired on "the first one over". No bullshit. She idled a little weird at first, but once it started to warm up, a little tinkering with the idle speed screw and it settled down and purred like a kitten. I then tossed the side plastics back on, reinstalled the seat, reinstalled the taillight section, and walked her outside to fire her back up and idle for a bit. I picked up most of my mess, poured the funky fish oil in our waste oil receptacle, and then took her for a low-speed jaunt around the property where I work. Never broke 20mph, never broke 2,800 rpm. I pulled her back behind my bay, took a short video to post for you guys and Facebook, and then tucked her back in the for the night. The biggest things I have on my mind right now, are questioning the BEST way to route the speedo and front brake hose, how much slack they need from the triple tree to their mounting location, and what to do about my sticky throttle cable. If the engine is off, you can give it a 1/2 throttle twist, and it snaps right back. If you feather the throttle, it will stick.....almost to 1/4 throttle. Being a novice rider, I'm not comfortable with that and need to lubricate the cable at the very least, and possibly re-route it, too. Anyhow, on with the show..... https://www.youtube/kQi50vYbb2U Last edited by BigWeld; 03-29-2017 at 10:08 PM. Reason: Fixed url |
