It took the third one for me as well. I was just lucky/smart enough not to actually get married to them, but we were together so long and our lives interwoven so much that even those two previous relationships fucked my life up pretty good, just not to a "you lose everything" kind of level. I still have my house and posessions.

+1 on the elephant memory with the other half not forgetting, and bringing up, stupid or uncool stuff you did in the past. But, if you want to see some eyes bulge, veins throb, and hear some serious deep breathing, do the same to her. You’ll often also hear that what you brought up never happened. Even with photographic evidence.
