hi clash! thanks for the reply. will give that a go. not had chance today, woke up with a trapped nerve in my shoulder... agony! will report back asap.

what is the reason for disconnecting the ground for the shut off from switch and or computer? i will try that but i like to know why i am doing something.
no sign of corrosion - i keep it indoors and am a 'fair weather biker', plus being in spain helps! it only has 3 fuses so i will check them out.

I read on here or saw on youtube that one of the grounding shut off wires could stop it from running. Might not help.

Order a coil. They are cheap. I assume you installed a new plug. Is it getting a good strong spark when cranking?

hi jerry - what is 'under a coil'? not sure what you mean.


re: spark plug, yes, new, but as i said at the start - i tested the spark plug when i turn the engine over it sparks for 2 seconds and then nothing until i switch off the ignition and back on again. still the same today. it's as if the ecu is killing the spark within two seconds - same each time. battery fully charged.


re: error codes - i get error codes if i unplug things like temp sensor / tps / iac / fuel pump. no error if coil unplugged but i don't think it monitors coil connection (?)



ohms check on stator and pulse look within tolerance.



would a coil just die after being great (new bike 3 and a half years ago) - it was standing for about nine months and no issues on last day i rode it.

coil arrived but they sent a single wire coil! wil be sending back!

It should still work. The single wire is the power source. All you need to do is ground the coil to the frame.

Hey thumpa,just another thought here about the battery? Since the bikes been sitting 9 months was the lifepo4 the only change? Just curious if you hooked up a multimeter to detect voltage while starting? I have a ‘20 Hawk DLX and was wondering what’s going on with your bike because it could happen to mine also. Thinking outloud….

ordered a coil from a different amazon seller and waited in all day for it, the tracking said 'out for delivery by 10pm' and just after 10pm they messaged to say 'nobody home' - classic courier b.s.! so now i have to wait again! aaarggh!



p.s. could not use the single pole coil as the efi system on my bike uses 2 wires, one is 12v and the other is used to ground the coil via the ecu, which is how it generates a spark. connecting the single pole coil with the body permanently earthed causes a blown fuse!

new coil arrived. description said '2 pins' - photo showed coil with 2 spade connectors. coil they sent was a single pin coil!
