The VM-26 is too small? For a 229 cc engine? That's more or less an 1 1/16th inch choke. That is plenty of carb for a Hawk or any other bike using that engine. ARH

Not saying the choke plate 26's are too small. All I know is the carb I got was too small

If that is true, it is not a VM-26. ALL VM-26's have the same venturi diameter (26mm). Just because the guy selling them says it's a 26 doesn't mean it really is a 26. On the flange, there should be numbers cast or stamped on there. Can you tell us what numbers and letters are on there?

I'm at work now, I'll get some pix tonight. Document the thing so at least someone else can avoid buying the wrong carb. And yes I'd say the carb was about 5mm smaller than the stocker (holding it along side and looking.) The venturi (at the slide) was oval in a vertical sense (taller than it was wide).

Buying this stuff is tricky, isn't it? Hard to be sure.

I bought what I thought was a main jet kit from Ebay for a vm26, but they're not quite right. They're very similar dimensions, but the thread pitch is every so slightly larger, and they don't screw in. At least they were cheap.

I've ordered a couple from Jets'r'us so we shall see,

Can I get away without taking the tank off (as per CSC manual) to remove the carb? Looks like it is tight at the top but seems to be otherwise pretty accessible. I'd prefer not to have to pull the tank every time I'm messing about with jetting.
