I wonder if it was the stator per se or the wires coming from the stator. Those are the wires behind the countershaft cover that tend to get pinched/damaged on the Lifanoids.

the pinch got me it would however start then die the sometimes nothing. im glad you found the problem.

Hot Oil
On the hot oil note. Would synthetic oil possibly get to hot? that is what I was running in it? I would think it would run cooler in a air cooled engine. I could be wrong though.
