Bottom line, if it is illegal for dogs to be loose, and the dog causes an accident of any kind, the owner is responsible.
Whether it gets loose once in a blue moon, or is never restrained. As far as what to do if a dog darts out in front of you, stop, if possible. If not, stand up with knees bent, elbows high, lean back some, and roll on the throttle. Get the front wheel up, or at least light. If the dog is in attack mode instead of darting out unexpectedly, ignore suggestion #1 |

We've got raccoons and cats all over the place down here as well as dogs and I was taught to do the same thing OB1 suggested, stand up, gas it and ride right through them, you have a better chance of saving yourself that way... Just my 2 cents...

Someday, hopefully many years down the road, when your dog passes on you might want to consider one of those Chinese Akitas. I hear they are a good dog for the money.

hahah... nice nice...
i never "buy" a dog, i dont like the idea of puppy farms.. i try to adopt all my dogs.. it costs about 150-500 depending on where you go and what breed you are looking for. My akita was about 300 because shes a pure bred and they specialize in only akitas and find foster homes for the dogs before they find a placement.. so they make sure that the dogs they take in are going to be good pets and to get an idea of what the dog's temperment is like, not like an animal shelter where they just take whatever... and lock them in a cage till someone takes them home or the shelter destroys them...

Sorry to hear about the accident. I hope you heal quickly.
I remember way back in ancient days, (the 70's) when I started riding on the road, my dad gave me some advice. At the time I thought was kind of silly but over the years I realized was very good. He said when you are riding there are lots of obvious things that you watch for, but 2 things to be really careful around. 1. Animals, both alive and dead laying in the road. 2. Railroad crossings. He had been riding since the late 50's, quite safely. My closest calls to having bad accidents have been animals and speed. Which reminds me of one of my favorite bad jokes. Why did the chicken cross the road? To show a possum that it really could be done! |

i was always told to be careful on the painted lines, and railroad crossings too...
those painted lines around a curve + cold sportbike tires = lowside incident.

I am sorry to hear about your accident. Last week I had a dog run out in the street in front of me. For some reason dogs just love to chase motorcycles.
What kind of protective clothing were you wearing? Helmet, jacket with armor, gloves, etc ....

No matter what the owner should be held responcible for the dogs actions. "My dog got loose" is not an acceptable excuse. The owner should be held accountable for themselves, thier animals and their childrens actions ,some of whom now adays are worse than any animal.Hope you have a speedy recovery.

I've had my run-ins with both dogs and and crossing on 2 wheels And one crossing over a dog. Hit the neighbors dog with my Honda Nighthawk. Rolled right over it at about 15 MPH. Dog lived. Sorry to hear you were hurt. Hope you get well soon.

Bfe,
Sorry to hear, hope you recover soon. I was lucky when I had that happen about 15 years ago. I was able to walk away with road rash and a beat up scoot. Looking back on it, I should have found the owner and talked to them about it. The dog was "fine" as far as I could tell. On a lighter note, I guess your wife may be having second thoughts about the DB03 in it's newly modified condition. Jason
