Its 1/2" hot rolled tubing, I believe .135 section. I got it from Alro Steel, not sure its purpose other than pretty good building material.

I am loving this thread. I have been working on designs in my head from pictures for a simple top rack and soft bag supports that can integrate a Rotopax 1 gal fuel pack at the base of the luggage rack for my big bike, and now I want to build something for my Hawk too. I am loving some of your alternate designs as well.

Right under the Tailbag would be perfect for center of gravity http://www.ebay.com/itm/SET-OF-2-Rot...YKzWLg&vxp=mtr

Right under the tail back is what I was meaning. I want to run soft bags/roll bags vs hard cases much like the ones shown on his rack designs, so mounting them to those is...difficult. I could make racks that hold them on the side with the soft bags going over them, but I don't want to make the bike too wide either.

I used to have a pair of them in the back of my jeep. The lock does sit a little proud, but for me it's not enough to be a big deal. It's maybe half an inch.

I've trail-biked with friends carrying rotopacs horizontal on the tail and strapped their bags on top of that, no problems. Yeah the lock isn't flush but with a soft bag that isn't a big deal. I'd go that route but we have a few MSR like canisters and not far between available stations so Rotopacs were not critical. I have a couple of those document cans that will strap to the left side, good for extra lightweight storage.

Stewbrash, thanks for showing us your new welder. Please start a new thread on it, as I'd love to hear more about it; particularly the ARC feature. I've never seen that on a MIG.

drisco welder
Thanks W&G, I guess I can start one, but where? I think I figured out the large photo problems; just downloaded an app from google store. Let's see if this works.

Off-Topic/General Discussion would be fine.
