it's a fun area to ride and there's dual sport riding in the area too. I go to TWoS regularly. I generally take my trailer/hauler as I prefer sleeping off the ground. they have several cabins that they rent along with a space above the restaurant with bedrooms too. of course there is plenty of tent space.

RVs have to park in the parking lot rather than the campgrounds itself, but it's a very short walk across a bridge. You have to be self sustained as far as electric is concerned. there's a very nice shower house available on-site too.

the restaurant is open on weekends for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is good food. always nice to have food on-site instead of having to cook myself.

the convenience store is often sold out of beer, so bring some with you just in case!

Now...the question is when!

This

+ this ...The number of watts a 5,000-BTU air conditioner uses depends on the number of amps it has and how many volts an outlet has. Most 5,000-BTU air conditioners use 5 amps, and when plugged into a 110-volt outlet, the unit uses 550

+ this ...

Air conditioner could be installed in plywood tailgate. Perfect hotel

Yes I think in terms of heat and humidity only. Just dreaming

Lets get a General Consensus. Spring? March maybe a bit chilly in the mountains. SO whats everyone think of April or May? Lets nail down a weekend.

if it's any help, I am planning a weekend with my Concours Owners Group in early May. I have not made final arrangements, but will likely be at Iron Horse Lodge or Kickstand Lodge, both near Robbinsville. There is a lot of good forest service road riding in that area. Our group would welcome the additional china invasion. I will have mine there, and another guy in the club has a hawk as well. Just an idea.

That trailer looks pretty good, I will bring you some earplugs so my snoring won't disturb you. If that doesn't work you can always fall back to the pickup.

Sport riders idea sounds like a plan , not sure if I would go being in Texas but it sounds reasonable. That way if it turns into a chinariders.net no show there would be other fellowship already there.

Tentatively, I think it would be May 4 to 7. That's a Thursday to Sunday. not 100% firm yet, but pretty sure.

I'm thinking May might be a great time to put this together. For those of you that are coming in from a little farther out, there is always this option: https://www.cyclegear.com/accessorie...rcycle-carrier

I have one, and I'll be using it to take my Hawk to Tampa in two weeks. One of the guys who works for me is taking his DR down there next week, and he'll be there all month. I'm going to take my Hawk on the back of the shop truck when I go down for a week, so we'll both have a way to get around without having to fire up the truck. We can also go where we want since we'll be on our bikes, instead of a company owned vehicle. And now back to our regularly scheduled programming:

May would be a great time to get together in the mountains. The Missus may even have her bike by then, so she and I could both go. Work tends to slow down for me around that time, too. I'm really hoping we can put this together this year, and don't lose sight of it as we get back in the swing of things in the new year. Let's put some energy into it and keep it going! Happy New Year, everyone!

good timing. my Concours rally that was planning for that weekend has been postponed until late July. I'm open for May 4-7 personally.

I talked to Iron Horse and they have a big crowd for that weekend. what that would mean is camping in a tent or bring your own cabin, like mine. otherwise their cabin space is sold out.

I have not talked to Kickstand, but they usually have the shovelhead group that weekend. last year we were there with them and there was still plenty of camping space and I believe some of their small cabins were still available.

of course, TWoS in Suches GA is still an option too. not sure what their availability is.

if we do a weekend in Western NC or north GA May 4-7, who would be in? that'll give us a count to have conversation with places.

1. SportRider. bringing cabin on wheels. any location is fine with me.

I have a car meet that weekend that I'm going to, so I guess I'm out, maybe the next one....

Have we decided on a venue for this yet? I can probably carve out a few nights to do some camping if we're close to the north Georgia/Tennessee area. Thoughts?

if the date is good, add yourself to the list (cut/paste), if you prefer being able to have a cabin, then if there's a location preference

On a sidenote, I have been thinking of following the route of Cannonball Baker's cross country trip that he took in 1914 from San Diego to somewhere back east in 11 days which seems very difficult for the time period and the early era of motorcycles. I figured doing it on a Chinabike would be epic-ish along the same lines

My Grandfather took a trip like that from Oklahoma City to the back side of Mt Shasta CA around 1904-06 (?) on an motorized Indian bicycle. Sitting on my Grandpaws lap listening to his story's got me into motorizing my own bikes. My next bike will be a Schwinn mountain bike made for me by the Schwinn factory (now closed) in Durango CO. I built them a computer for a trade. Iam using a 98cc side rod flat head lifan much like my Granddads engine only if I remember right his engine was closer to a 200cc but put out about the same HP? It will have a 7 speed transmission with a granny gear and a overdrive. I have all the parts already hope to get it done over this summer. Iam working on my Tig welding skills before I start welding on my bike frames. I have the crazy notion of taking the same route on my homemade bike someday.
