The cable inside the sheath. Pull the sheath from the bottom (wheel end), slide the cable out, making sure you remember the orientation (which end is the low end), hose it down with carb cleaner or some other cleaner and wipe the muck off, hit it with WD40 and let it dry. Then, grease it and slide it back into the sheath. These things create a TON of friction twisting inside that sheath with no lube or that gummy crap that they sometimes come with from China. Snaps them in nothing flat.

I gave mine a light coat of some wheel bearing grease and it seemed to work great.

White lithium was always the standard for that and door hinges.

Got the new cable from CSC today (surprised it wasn't just the inner, they sent a complete cable). Seems to be have some lube on it, but I ended up spraying it down with a chain wax that was highly recommended. Also bent the speedometer assembly bracket down which eliminated the cable pressing up against the headlight assembly. Actually a better view angle now for my height. Took it for a 20 mile spin after. Should be much better now.

I have tub of Bel Ray waterproof grease. Would that work for the speedo cable? I don't want white lithium I want aluminum...

I've used any grease I've had on the shelf. You just do a light coating anyway. I usually do this annually. I just did the one on Q about a month ago. It's amazing how it smooths out the speedo needle and makes it rock solid in place. No waggle at all.

BelRay makes great products, I wouldn't hesitate to use that grease anywhere on my motorcycle including the Speedo Cable, I will say a few other brands have (slightly) "higher drop points" but that's about all that's 'bad' on the BelRay Grease

I routed it like that....and pulled, cleaned and lubed the speedo cable before it even hit the road and it appears that the TT250 made a liar out of me! It let go on this mornings ride with about 90 kliks on it. :-( This is the first CB speedo cable I've had snap. Time to contact Ryan!
