I hear you! Since I know Wade and Alan from Excalibur, I have been thinking of any and every way to put their TGB scooters into a side business. Since I am a teacher, and read somewhere that the state of Hawaii was going all out to recruit teachers, I had this thought in the back of my head of moving there, working a day job, while running a scooter rental business on the side. One of our local Yuma friends' daughter moved back there and is living with her grandma, and she is not working right now-I would possibly even have an employee/manager. But, a family of five could NEVER dream of moving to Hawaii on what would be literally poverty wages as the state of Hawaii would be paying me about what I make now, in Yuma :duh:

After researching a bit, I have narrowed down my search to moving back to L.A. as their wages are much more geared to living there and my and my wife's whole family live in the area. While 50cc scooters are not really great sellers in California, there are numerous courier businesses that have sprung up there which utilize contractors rather than employees. They are primarily geared towards delivering upscale and/or trendy restaurants' food to snotty customers rather than what couriers traditionally have carried; small packages or bank or lawyer documents (I suppose CPAs might use a courier from time to time ). Since those working for them are independent contractors, that allows them to be on bicycles and scooters and motorcycles, thus closing a huge loophole for injuries and other such liability, even in a state like California. I think that TGB's Express scooter is perfect to work for something in this area.

This business venture might not get off the ground. Just to become a dealer in CT that can sell registerable motorcycles cost about $1,800 in DMV fees. WE would have to sell a bunch of Bikes. My $5,000 seed money investment is quickly turning into a $10,000 commitment. Not sure there is a huge payback.

Does CT have different laws with under 50cc scooters?

My friends have a Tao Tao dealership and mainly sell atv's and dirt bikes ,and whenever they sell a scooter they just register it in their names ,then the purchasers name essentially it becomes used as a way around some of the b.s. .

My nephew already sells Tao Tao's and <50 cc scooters, those don't need the DMV crap. Yeah Bruce, when I started looking into china bike after sticker shock at a honda dealership I almost bought an SSR. But to register it they were going to do the same thing because they didn't cut through the DMV red tape yet either.

I still might do it, I just need to really think about how many he has to sell. They already have a pretty decent repair/assembly shop there.

There is just some environmental stuff we would have to do like a 250 gal water water thingy and other items I'm still learning.

That's exactly what happened to the Mrs and I! We just wanted a couple small 3/4 size dirt bikes for camping to fit in the back of the truck when hauling our pop-up camper. I saw what they wanted for a pair of Yamaha 125 little 4 strokers and just about fainted.
