It didn't come with any shims. Keep in mind, I did not get this bulb from CSC but it appears to be the same manufacturer and style. I actually just came in from modifying it. I cut off the light deflectors on each side and orientated it so the LEDs face up and down instead of side to side. Obviously I am destroying the bulb but for experiment sake I don't care. I also have another brand new bulb as it was pack of 2.
This is the bulb. Original install is in my blog here: https://www.facebook.com/My-CSC-Zong...0302595973417/

I tried one LED headlight and found that it had a "black" spot in the center of the low beam, and low beam cutoff was poor to say the least.
I have found these bulbs which claim good low beam cutoff plus the typical LED specs. I have not tried them yet; they are not cheap; $250 for a pair. Available here, and other places: http://www.xenondepot.com/h4-philips.../12953bwx2.htm Philips' info: http://download.p4c.philips.com/file..._pss_engau.pdf From this info sheet: Philips patented SafeBeam optical design brings maximum visibility with a beam pattern that does not glare other road users. Similar or better beam pattern than standard halogen lamp, ECE beam pattern compliant*. * There is no ECE regulation existing for LED bulbs. ECE beam pattern compliance is tested on several commonly used luminaires where the LED bulb beam pattern matches the ECE approved halogen beam pattern

I will not spend anywhere near that on a light. I rarely ride at night. I will switch to a standard 9003 Silverstar Ultra if my modification doesn't work.

I used the Silverstar and while the light output is good, the heat caused some bubbling of the reflector at the top.
I switched to the LED bulb that Detours is using and find that the light pattern is pretty good. I added spot LED aux. lights to project further down the road and I'm actually really happy with that setup. |

Hi All
Thanks for all the suggestions, I've got some 55/60W 5000K bulbs, but I may hold off installing them, and see if anybody comes up with better LED bulbs. Cheers Tony |

You can read my review with pics here. It's a nice bright light that shines with a big round pattern with no shadows. It throws a lot of light to the sides and except for the lack of a flat cutoff, it's very nice. I aimed it kind of low and I'm still using it, but I don't like blinding other drivers, so I'm still hunting for a strong LED lamp with a good cutoff.

Here's my latest LED find. It looks very promising and not too expensive at $60/pair (w/ free shipping). The 'H4 9003' size fits our reflector.

I haven't found the overall dimensions yet, so I'm going to keep looking before I purchase.

RT, their page has a video link showing the adjustment to tune the LED to the reflector.
I like it, Joel. While watching the video and how they're tuning it, I started pondering how to link the heat sink to a windshield wiper unit to give the effect of a MARS light like on locomotives. Must be time for my meds again. |

Hi Detours
They look like really good lights, could you keep us informed on how you find them, if you do end up getting a pair. Thankyou Tony |
