Why do you say that? If you aren't getting at least 65 mpg +, ONROAD, you have problems. Off road, you can't expect to see these numbers, but on pavement, you should easily see 70 mpg once the engine is broken in. What do you get?

Yikes, you shouldn't be knockiing on 89 octane. These motors only need around 87. They are only 9ish to 1 comp. Are you runnig an after market CDI??
It's a stock CDI and i may be mistaking knock for some other noise. But, it seems to have stopped after using 93 oct.

I think i figured out one of the reasons why I am getting such crappy mileage.

When I pulled the plug to set the valves today I noticed it was black and smelled of gas.

So, after setting valves I put clip on the needle up a notch. Hopefully that will address the richness issue and maybe give me some more mpg.

its warm enough now that the bike fires right up with clip in new position.

I also replaced the plug with a brand new one. that last plug lasted almost 4000 km.

bike idles smoother. slight misfire seems to be gone. and the sewing machine noise is less.
