Do you have experience riding? By any chance, is this your first motorcycle?

I'm 54 and been riding since I was 16, so yeah, I would say so lol First bike was a Yamaha TY50P, Then I had a Honda 125XL and later I went back to Enduro's and got a Yamaha DT80 Which was the last Enduro/Dirt bike I had. Just sold a beautiful 81 GS550. I have a Harley and a couple of Triumphs that keep me VERY busy. I really wanted another Enduro and I took a leap of faith and went Chinese. I know NOTHING about Chinese bikes apart from they have had a bad wrap.. I was inclined to believe I could fix anything should it need it. Hows that for faith! :O)

So, I got it legal today... took it to the local bar and had dinner.. Filled up on the way home. No problem.. Got home and gas was pumping out of the gas cap.. Smoke coming from the exhaust (hot hot) I got off quick.. pretty dangerous I thought. So now the gas was running out from the opposite side, I took off the cap and it wasn't overflowing. Looks like pressure was building up and pushing it out through the vent. I left it to cool down for a while and went back. Suckorama!! The pant as peeling off the plastic tank faring. What a disappointment! It looks a right mess now. 1 afternoon on the road and it looks like crap. Anyway. I mailed the sellers.. I'll see what they come up with.

oh no!! that really sucks man! assuming you got it from an internet dealer?? ordered mine from one, but after not being able to get in touch with them just to inquire about my order, i lost faith and canceled the order. assuming any after purchase problem would be near impossible to get help with… culcune from this forum hooked me up with excalibur - the guy there gave me his personal cell number and email, and always responds within a day.
i hope you get a good resolution for this! if anyone can help you, the guys on this forum can… well not me, lol, but the guys on here seem to know and been through it all... |

That's a good looking bike, with a good looking engine.
Chinese warranties don't have a good reputation. However, I wouldn't worry about the tank shroud. I suggest you clean the damaged shroud, and paint it whatever color you choose with Kryon Fusion spray paint. http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion-for-plastic/

SpudRider. I hear ya, but I think anything near the tank should not be susceptible to the ravages of gasoline! I have NEVER had this issue with a stock motorcycle.. Had a few disasters with my own paint jobs but I learned lessons I'm sure these guys are professional enough to understand. I don't need a repaint job, I need it fixing.. I doubt Krylon is fuel resistant/proof Lets see what response I get... By the way.. it's really nice to have some shoulders to lean on! Kudos ChinaRiiders! |

Not sure what the front sprocket is.. but the rear is 50T EEK!
I need to fix that.. seems awful "revy" This going to take some working out I think..... Oh 260mm rear shock ordered.. should shave 1.5" off the standard one. Might need a couple of spacers though...... |

That is definitely one of the beloved counter-balanced CG (pushrod) motors. Valves are super easy to adjust, assuming you can remove the valve cover from the engine. There have been situations where riders have had to trim a few fins off of the valve cover so it would clear the frame.

Thanks for the info..
Where would I get decent schematics for this engine? Spud mentioned a carb change/jetting, also an exhaust mod, but I'm not there yet.. I can feel it "bagging" when I open it out. Like there would be more, if it were set up right. Is this based on another engine/clone? The rear sprocket is 50T Not sure what front sprocket is, but I might need to go up a tooth. Engine, is very quiet and smooth, tickover is really slow. I increased that just a fraction. In my teens, I always seem to remember a 250cc as having some guts, maybe I spoiled myself over the years and just forgot that 250 is not really a big engine. I had a Yamaha 125LC that would do 80mph (after a small mod to the downpipe) And I swear my Yamaha DT80 had more guts than this. Anyway, that was 30 years ago and I can barely remember what I did yesterday haha.. |

250 is well rounded up, and the actual number is likely to be 223cc. When properly set up, it has a nice, flat torque curve and a responsive feel. It'll never be a speed demon, but it will get you where you want to go.
On every CG I've had my hands on, I've installed a 30mm Mikuni that I referenced in post #11. Smog devices, be gone.

I think it's a 229? Still looking for reference on the engine, or bike even. Closest I have seen is the Ronco Demolition and the Bashan 250 Xplode, niether of which I like the description!! lol
As for the pipe, not sure my welding is up to it.. would be fun trying though.. but I see this and it looks like parts could be interchangable. Pipe in particular. Already sourcing the carb.. so, by smog devices, are you just refering to the cat (egg as I call it) ? Thanks. |
