Castrol chain lube on the roadable ADV bike..
On the dirt only bikes dosn't matter it's gone in 30mins.. I only use O ring chains at least they retain some lube inside the rollers.. I did try natures wonder lube "bees wax" as I have blocks of it for the lathe & mill... but it didn't stay on any longer than the others.. ..

I bought this off of Amazon, based on a friends recommendation, DuPont Teflon Chain-Saver Dry Self-Cleaning Lubricant. It really cleans the chain up good. Then I used Motorex Road Chain Lube and that really gave good chain coverage. It honestly was the only lube/wax item that was in stock when I needed it at work.
I still have the stock chain on the bike, but when I do change it, I will get one with an oring master link. I bought this kit: Stockton Chain Breaker And Rivet Tool Kit to help with that. |

Chain specs
Actually guys, I have a question.
Is the stock chain size on the RX3 a 520/120 or a 520/110? If it was a 520/110 can you put a 520/120? Can you make a 520/120 a 520/110? (Sorry I am new to chain buying) Any help would be great! |

10 links is a lot of links. If the bike takes a 110, my guess is that 10 more links won't work....and I really like the DuPont Chain Saver you bought. It stays on the chain and off the rim.

The stock RX3 chain is a 520 that is 110 links long. Chains are often sold at a bulk length, like the 120 link chain you've referenced, to fit multiple applications and sprocket sizes and then are cut to the appropriate length. These chains come with a master link and can be shortened to any length you need.

Thanks guys. I did buy a chain breaker and rivet kit. The chains I bought were a 120 length. Says it has a master clip, but not a rivet clip. Seems some folks either like one or the other. Nonetheless, I guess over time I will figure out what works best for me.
Thanks for the video! It's just another cool new thing to know and be able to do. |

The chain that came on my '16 RX-3 was an "O" ring chain. I had read Joe's book about the chains only lasting for 5K miles or so. Based on that I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade right off the bat and thus get more mileage out of both the chain and sprockets. Imagine my surprise when I cut the old chain off and found it had "O" rings. I wonder if Zong upgraded for '16.

The most critical wear area on a chain is between the pin and the bushing inside the roller. The o-ring serves to keep dirt & water out while keeping the lube/grease in. The quality of the metal and the lube used during assembly are the big factors in chain life, as long as proper adjustment is maintained. |

They always had an o-ring chain, but yeah, not the best quality. The stock chain is good for about 5000 miles, maybe a little more. Just keep an eye out for kinks and watch the length as it stretches. When you change the chain, it's a good idea to change the sprockets too.

I'm just curious as to why they run a continuous chain on the RX3. Even on my most abused, most powerful MX bikes I used to race (the Husky being one of them), I've never in my life had a master link fail and my MX bikes put chains through much more abuse than the RX3 would ever dream of......
