Skid plate, right rear mounting point has sheered. Four+ month old bike. Dealer thinks it won’t be an issue to cover - “It is known,” as they say in Star Wars.

Ah yes, the awesome skid plate. The RX3's here cracked early on. I used rubber toilet washers on mine and avoided the breakage.

I took mine off the Scram when I saw the first post about cracking on the other forum. I wanted to paint it anyway. The thing fit poorly. Lots of tension squeezing together side to side and the front squishing backwards at the two mounting bolts. I could see where the right rear mount would take the brunt of the stress.

Stuck mine in the vise and tweeked it around quite a bit, test fitting the whole time. Fits with far less tension now. Hoping to avoid the inevitable cracked mount. Ended up lining it with dyna-mat type stuff to stop any buzzing and help insulate the echo.

Today, it topped out at 46' so we rode west, out of the foothills into the valley to the Lake Pardee overlook. Great to get out, not too many frozen corners. Went with my friends Big Chris (on the KLR) and Ron (on the CSC RX3). Beautiful day wrapped up in warm duds. The shady areas were sketchy but not too bad. The Scram did flawlessly. Man, I love this bike the more I ride her. The worst part was the ride home to the Upcountry after we stopped for Chinese food. It got COLD! Pulled into the driveway at 3000' elevation.....at 36' in my shop. Cold enough for this old fat guy. Had to shower again to thaw. Worth every mile though.

I like the scram's size against the KLR. when are you going to upgrade to the new Himi? That 450 has lots of power!

Funny you mention the size. I mounted the Shinko 705's on his KLR and I was almost shocked at how big the bike is. It fits Chris well. He's almost 6'4".

The new Himmie??? I think it's going to smoke the market and be another massive hit.....just not in my market. If I was younger and more aggressive? Most likely. I love the mild-mannered personality of the 411 motor, plus it's air cooled. No coolant to mess with. These are just my personal preferences though.

They quote just over 31". I have a 32" inseam and have no probems mounting or sitting on it. The little bag I put on adds to the extra "old man noise" throwing my leg over. Without it, no problems at all.

There's a discussion on the RE forum right now about the Scram's usefulness and being underrated. Folks do a lot with them. Again, to me it's all about the paved twisties and gravel roads. It sucks them up. My only complaint is the 411 motor makes weird noises, but it bullet proof. Apparently the noises are implanted from the factory just to make you worry. ;-)

Here's the link to a thread I started. Check out the vid at about 4 minutes. That's the dang noise. Apparently it's harmless and all the 411's make it.

So its about the same height as Honda CB300 then. Just barely manageable for me. But at least its at a height where its in the running when i go looking at an RE next year.

Good to know to expect some odd noises with it from the get go.

The Scrams seat height is almost the exact same as my Shotgun. Just narrower. The tallest seat in the RE lineup is the Interceptor I believe.

All of the RE air cooled engines make noises. My 650 has that same background clatter of a solid tappet valvetrain as my Hawk, though the Hawks is a bit more noticeable. I like the noise, though I may be a bit odd.

From the further reading i have done the Hunter is the same height again. From what i can tell from looking at the Hunter its basically a scrambler style bike as well.

Technically speaking, the Hunter is a Roadster style motorcycle the same as the Classic 350, Bullet 350 Interceptor 650 and my Shotgun (yes, the Shotgun is also a Roadster). Mid to mid-rear peg and control placement, standard handle bars, and a mostly upright to slightly forward riding position. The Bullet is just the untouched classic version of it while the Hunter has a more modern design and feel to it. Both of those being bobber versions of the Classic 350. The Interceptor is the Sporty/Fast one, and the Shotgun is just a modern interpretation of the bullet. The Meteor 350 is just the cruiser version of the Bullet.

If you actually think about it, that may be why the RE bikes are so popular. They basically build 5 variations of the same bike, but they all 5 have a unique feel and attitude to them. Somethin for everybody, but also all the same in a way. They are starting to do the same with the 650's as the Classic 650 is coming, which is going to be based on the Shotgun 650 design with the floating single seat, but with full set of classic fenders, a traditional teardrop tank, and spoked wheels. Sort of a mashup of the Shotgun and Super Meteor mixed with elements from the Classic 350 to round out the look.
