Its the bulbs. I swapped one from the turn signal to the backlight it it works.
So I need three for the backlighting and one for the high beam indicator. Keyswitch from Honda $28. No cheap ones on ebay. Right now it works with any key.

$28 seems fair. Too bad that it won't match your seat lock, if equipped.

Good news on the bulbs. I consider that Honda price super cheap!

The seat lock turns with anything. So does the little storage compartment.
The scooter is not too secure. New bulbs installed. Dash lights up again. Oil changed today. Need to make a parts list again and get an order ready.

You know you're doing good when your biggest repairs are key locks and light bulbs. Glad the Honda is sorted.

Back in the day, any key would open any Suzuki gas cap...

Change the oil. Installed the second exhaust gasket. :x Didn't last long. Poor design in my opinion.
The gasket on the right is the new one. One in the middle xr200 and the one on the left is the new one I installed 600 miles ago. The muffler flange looks clean. I was hoping the xr gasket would fit. Its about 2mm to large in diameter. The good, we delivered some food to a family in need and filled up on the way home at 72mpg.

Is that exhaust gasket a generic unit, or OEM Honda?

I'm glad the fix was as simple as installing new light bulbs, Allen. The ignition switch didn't cost much for an OEM, Honda part.

The gaskets are OEM honda parts. This is one of the common issues with the scooters. Same on the bigger 250 helix and elite too.
I plan to try an reduce the size of that xr copper gasket an fit it.

I found some GY6 gaskets that look like the xr gasket. That may do the trick.
I sounds horrible with it leaking. The exhaust is definately restrictive.

The 2 stroke guys locate the flange with washers welded to the slots, trim the protruding pipe off, then use a flat asbestos gasket between the head and the flange (pipe), opening the whole works up to flow more.
I am not saying you can do this, because I have no idea what you have there, but if it proves troublesome it must be because there is some kind of movement going on there (of course, that is not to say, if you make it so it can't move at the head, that the pipe does not develop cracks somewhere). The more restrictive an exhaust system, the hotter it gets, and the more it wants to move. |
