The JT sprocket would be a JTF1264.17 https://www.amazon.com/JT-Sprockets-...omotive&sr=1-6

That is eerily similar looking to the sprocket on mine.. It is possible that my teeth counting procedure lacks something to be desired. I'd place the blame on the tooth fairy skipping over my childhood zip code. So I guess the next fun exercise will be finding a rear sprocket in the future.

New seat!

I FINALLY got my new seat from amazon that came all the way from China. I ordered it before my bike arrived about a month ago. I am extremely happy with the way it looks and took all of 2 minutes to install. It’s much firmer than stock but getting rid of the hump is nice so I can sit further back. I’m only 5’8 but I always felt a little cramped on the stock seat. Plus look how f&@*n good it looks!

I also painted my front fender and side covers with rustoleum bedliner, happy with the way those turned out as well. I origionally wanted to do just a satin black, but decided I wanted some texture as well.

If anyone is interested, it seems that all the 21" "Café Racer" seats on amazon are drop in replacements.

On my long gone DF250RTB in order to change the gearing a smaller rear sprocket was required. My mini tach reads about 5k RPM at 50 MPH. 6K RPM at 60 MPH.

Like that seat. Which one on Amazon?

I agree. The seat looks great.

My bike has been waking up quite a bit, I'm almost a 200 miles and its loosening up after every ride, so gearing is less of a concern than it was 100 miles ago.

Have you played with the carb at all? I know I'm running a hair rich.

I was also thinking of removing the air injection. Is it okay to remove it with while keeping the stock muffler/cat, or should I wait until I get a new slip on?

I mocked up some potential mods on photoshop today, below is the before and after.

I am considering doing a vertical license plate mount on the axel and chopping the fender flush with the frame, removing the passenger grab handle, and upgrading to RFY air adjustable shocks.

I like the vintage look the bike has now, but I’m torn on moving to more of a “brat” style bike.

Thoughts?

Haven't touched the carb on my DF. I would think that it would be running EPA lean. Bike seemed to run fine to me as is.

I made a plate to cover the hole on the head when I removed the air injection. A little plastic cap covers the tube in the intake. No other changes are required as the air is pumped down stream of the exhaust valve. I have removed the AIS on several bikes with no issues. Might make the engine runs a little cooler but no performance gains that I could tell.

I like the muffler on the bike as it has a nice sound.

I re jetted today. Mine came stock with a 102 main and 40 pilot. I switched the main out with a 105 and pilot with a 42. What a world of difference. The idle is much smoother at 1k rpm, it previously had a small amount of stutter that low. And with the small difference in the main it pulls a lot better going through the gears. I would say 20-25% better by my own arbitrary metric. Bike feels much better moving from a stop thanks to the larger pilot (this is the best improvement. I didn’t think it was a big deal until now that I have felt the difference. Totally worth the $12 I paid for the kit. I’m thinking of trying out the 108 that came with the kit as well. Very pleased with the results so far!

Also did a speed test with my new jets, I was able to get 62mph going down a small hill with just a slight tuck at 7k rpm in 5th. I have yet to test the accuracy of my speedo over 45, so there may be a slight skew in the results past 60. I would like just a hair more out of the bike so I will be doing research to find a replacement rear sprocket in the future.

If the hubs are the same as the common dual-sports, there are seemingly limitless rear sprockets for them. I think putting in 1980 XL185 (or something similar) on ebay will get you a rear sprocket for most every Chinese dual-sport. The countersprocket should be the same as an XR250 on ebay; I would go with a 17 (although some Chinese engines need slight modifications to get a 17 to fit).

You are good to go as far as the countersprocket goes! See what you can find as far as the rear. I am fairly certain, and Barnone can verify since he owned 2 of them, that the very popular Dongfang bobber (sadly they no longer make them) must have used the dual sport hub because I recall members of the very popular thread on the Mychinamoto.com (Barnone started that thread, btw) had some very high gearing (low numerically). You should get on JT Sprockets site and measure your own bolt patterns and compare the measurements to what JT has on their site.
