Looks like it's time for an oil change too. Rotella T6, maybe? 8)
Many of the Rotax engines are made in China. It's not a coincidence that Doc's Xingyue engine has a "Rotax" top end.

I know it was supposed to be but it was nice to get confirmation. So we have confirmed that top and bottom engine parts are readily available. That's a relief.

I rode it to work today, and the sound is definatly much less, almost gone except at speeds below normal idle. I'll leave it as is. The future owner may want to upgrade to a high performance chain adjuster.

Ya know Doc,.... I don't know if it has to do with the larger capacity thumper or what, but my buddy across the street has a 2009 Honda CRF 450 that is virtually brand new. Has less than 100 miles on it. The thing is a beast, to be sure....but man....it's unbelievably mechanically thrashy! It sounds like it's going to grenade at any moment....new! 8O
It just sounds like that, naturally. I was shocked being a real Honda.

KLR's 'clack' quite a bit too. I think it is a large thumper thing to a degree. A louder exhaust would fix it! 8)

I noticed that with the KLR that was in my possession.

My Honda XR650L doesn't make "clacking" noises; neither does my Zong. I think it all depends on the bike's design. In any event, I'm glad you discovered the solution, Doc!

I've ridden at least a half dozen KLR's, a lot. Maybe 30,000 miles on KLR's. They all 'clack' but I liked it.

The KLR650 bikes have a chain driven counterbalancer, which is tensioned by the notorious "dohicky." I believe the "clack" originates from this source.

Any idea yet as to what kind of rear sprocket will fit the PP? I searched for a 14t countershaft sprocket, with no luck.

Did you buy an LXT 400, Brian? :?:

LXT 400 owners might find some useful information in the following thread.

I would think any front sprocket for an NX250 would work, no guarantees though.

I have received a lot of interest in the PP, I hope to sell it today .

Ethics prohibit me from getting back what I paid, I'm in for a loss . Indeed if the buyer does not bring it up himself, and he has cash, I intend to let it go for $1,000, despite asking $1,200. I also tell people up fron tthere is a noise that may be easy (clutch?) or difficult (rod?). I only plan to show it to people who fancy themselves mechanically inclined.

Indeed the guy who is supoed to look at it today is a farm hand who needs a commuter bike that he can ride out on the dirt and gravel farm access roads too. He is mechanically inclined so this may be a good bike/deal for him.

I'd rather lose some money (indeed any Earthly posession) than disappoint God and take advantage of anyone in this (or any) transaction.

Amen, Brother Bill. I assume you would not sell a brand new Konker motorcycle, as is, with a cracked front fork, and let the new owner endanger his life by riding it on the public highways, let alone expect him to find the replacement part, and pay for it out of his own pocket! 8O

You got that rirght, Brother Spud. I have to answer to a higher power, One to whom I owe my life. I'd set fire to the PP and watch it burn before disappointing Him by taking advantage of someone.

Similarly I (or ANY of us I'm sure) would never let an obviously unsafe motorcycle out of my shop. A possible exception to that would be, "Here's the bike. Don't ride it until you fix the fork. I'm knocking $300 off the price to cover that." That would be acceptable.
