The denali GMCs and the 2500 models do. I don't think we need that. The fuel economy is much better with a 5.3. Trailering will be limited.

Yes, although I presume the 5.3 will be quite capable. My little 4.8 pulls my trailer well, despite it being near 6000lbs.

The 4.8 is not available in the SUVs anymore. I have one in my work truck and it does well. Pulled a large pontoon with it and tandem trailers quite a bit.
I am reading about problems with AFM models. (cylinder deactivation). Lifters failing and high oil consumption. This is only the 5.3L models.

Looks like 05 on some models. By 07 they all had it.

It was not common in the trucks until 07 and then not all had it. The 4.8L did not get it either.
This makes the expedition more appealing. At least until I find something bad about them.

Perhaps you'd like to do some research into the volume of theft by model. I'm sure that my Dad's '04 F-350 was stolen six or seven times.

I have never heard of a vehicle stolen that many times. Is it just taken for joy rides? Stolen vehicles is not to big around here.

I started working on pulling the engine. Radiator is huge. 3x3 or so. Pulled the intake manifold off along with the injectors, coil packs, alternator, throttle body, air intake parts. Next is to get the front of the van off, bumper, grill, radiator supports, etc so that the engine can come straight out the front. Probably need the little tractor to pull the crane up the hill into the shop with the engine. Buford and Furball coached.

Its down in there. So far has been fairly easy to work on. 10mm and 8mm have taken most of it apart.

I am considering a replacement, but most likely parting it out. The cost to bring this van back into a safe/comfortable condition are almost more than buying a ready to go replacement. The AC needs work, the van leaks water when it rains, will be needing front end work. Has rust starting. Wife can't drive it safely. Too short.
I can likely sell enough parts to recover what I have in it and apply that money to a replacement vehicle. Said vehicle is likely a 2007 Yukon XL that I found. It will replace the minivan in a couple years when it dies too. 3.8L is burning oil. I give it two years then it becomes the backup. Used engines are cheap for those.
