I have a wilson's leather jacket that I bought over 10 years ago. Still looks good.

Cheesy, why a Volvo switch? It looks to be a passive type, and not immersed in coolant; is that right? Is there no NPT hole for a screw-in type?

Yeah, Weld, passive. There is no bung in the rad and no place to put one. The Volvo switch was handy and cheap. I'm by no means married to it. I'm still in the hunt for one that can double as a drain plug, but the Volvo switch will work for now.

Did you just pull that out of the air, or did someone on a forum direct you to it?

I opted for the Volvo switch. Most of what I've read on the CX forum uses a Klixon 80C(176F) NO switch epoxied to the rad. I couldn't find an NO Klixon around here to save my life. Found plenty of NC for pennies.

The Volvo switch may be a bit warm for my set up; close at 92C(198F), open at 87C(188F). Then again, I feel the 80C switch is a bit cool when running a 180F thermostat.

Don't know if I can find a switch to double as a plug; M12x1.25 thread, flat gasket seal, 15mm from seal to tip. I'd check my back pocket but all I'd find is lint.

Back at the office today and decided that Tim should find what he burned up himself. Gave him a hand full of fuses and had him follow the shorted circuits, unplugging stuff until he quit popping fuses. Had two smoked relays on two different circuits. Not efficient, but I bet he doesn't cross cables on a 24V system again.

Sounds like troubleshooting 101 for Tim. That's one way to learn.

So, the Volvo switch is NO?

Yep, NO

In northern Maine for the rest of the week. Which means nothing's getting done on the bike. Just as well, weather still sucks back home.

Back home from Maine this afternoon. I think somebody missed me.

Jeez, I'm getting too old for this job. Had to yank a rotary manifold from a 360 excavator yesterday. Did it in record time but I hurt in places I forgot I had. My arms are a myriad of small cuts, chest and knees are abraded and bruised, and I can barely turn my head.

I'll be heading back to Maine as soon as the replacement manifold arrives.
I can't wait until Jason or Tim have to do this job.

So, what this means, is that I'll be home for the next week. Winter has finally succumbed to spring, and I'll be back on the CX with the garage door open tomorrow.

As an aside to my Canuck friends, I can spit into NB where I'm doing this job.

You gotta get yourself there during lobster fest. Totally worth it.

Where I'm working, it's easier to get a mooseburger than lobster.

Crud, more delays. :(

For giggles and grins, I decided that it would be prudent to test the temp switch. Supposed to close at 92C, had it immersed in water up to 100C and no function. Plus, clearance issues with where I had it located.

Second slap, air dam for the hi speed coils is dry rotted. What I thought was a cobweb turned out to be a small crack in the rubber. Which became a very long crack when I touched it. At least I have material on hand to make a replacement.

I located some 80C NO Klixon style temp switches, cheap, but they are coming out of HK, so a bit of a wait there. So, in the meantime, repair the air dam tomorrow then get the engine in and do the wiring for the fan and HID headlight.

Maybe I can get a ride in before I have to park it next winter.

Is there a way to tee into a rad hose and adapt a bung for a screw-in switch? Might be able to find a more compact version that way, and have more options for mounting positions.

BTW, I find that most small HK goods take only two weeks.

I thought of that Weld, but with very short 3/4" hoses there aren't many options. I've been looking at other options and the use of a MOSFET/10K NCT Thermistor/10K pot looks interesting. I ordered the stuff to try it.

Welcome home.

Dog and cat love is good love. In some (many) cases I prefer it to human love...

I've had both moose and lobster in Maine. I prefer the moose.

I feel old just working on my normal sized stuff. Cuts take longer to heal, my hands get sore, my back hurts. I know how you feel!

Good on you for keeping it up though!

Hang in there, Cheesy! You are making good progress, and I'm sure you will get to ride the bike this year.
