You've done the heavy lifting. A lot of hard work. You like the bike. No reason not to go all in! Head porting and cam. Don't get rid of it, you will regret it. The bike you built by your own hand we always be a most enjoyable ride! CB strong, ride hard!

More to the point...I'm really hoping that Joe Henners RXB upgrades will work.

gearset swap into 5 speed engines?

Hi all. Very interested in this engine. I have both CRF230F and AJP PR4. I would like a 6 speed in the AJP which uses the ZS 169YMM (air/oil cooled 69mm x 62.2mm- 233cc) engine with 5 speeds.

I have looked at engine swapping with a Honda CRF230F engine, which has it's advantages re available performance parts (some of which can fit the ZS 169YMM, but not all).

This Loncin engine seems like a possible swap also, but the lower front balance thing area may not fit the frame.

My big question is, has anyone investigated whether the 6 speed gear set will fit in any of the other CB type 5 speed cases? If they can be adapted to fit the ZS165FMM or ZS169FMM/YMM it would be very interesting. Especially if it will go into the 169 as this one has some hot up advantages over the 165 with larger inlet valve and potential for a much larger big bore.

Has anyone found any engineering diagrams that might give an hint without having to actually dismantle both types of engines, or better still has anyone actually split the cases on the engine to see what is in there?

I read somewhere a few years ago that someone in Europe got a Honda 6 speed gearset into an AJP 169YMM, but I seem to remember that there was something different about the gearbox model he used. I dont think it was from a CRF230F.

Unfortunately, most of the Chinabikes you guys have are not brought here.

The CRF and XR 200 got redesigned cases to fit a wider transmission, so they have a stronger, wider gear set; they don't use the same cases as standard 5-speed cases.

The only one that might work is the XL/XR125 from the early 80s. I've heard that they fit into the standard CB 5-speed cases. It is a kickstart transmission though, so the gears are probably narrower/weaker than your 5-speed, which was even a problem in the (redesigned) 6-speed in the XR200.

There's also a possibility of the NX125 transmission working, though there are differences between the JD09 and JD12. I have a JD12 and have been trying to get case dimensions to determine the same sort of stuff, but it seems like Honda did a one-off case design for the NX, it has some funky aspects to it that don't match up with the rest of the family.

If you look, I have a thread on here about transmissions, I'm trying to gather data, and I'd appreciate your contribution.

I honestly think for you, the easiest solution would be the CRF230 motor, as a counterbalancer will interfere with the standard engine mounts.

I'd recommend giving this a read: https://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/attach...xr200-mods.pdf

Currently developing a new motorcycle for the USA market with Loncin, using a different variant of this engine.....and enjoyed the read.

Our motorcycle will launch in Q4 & look forward to seeing how the USA market responds with mods, etc!
