NICE BIKE!! But GOOD LORD SHE IS SINGING. A little high is an understatement. Turn the idle down and make sure the throttle cable is adjusted properly and the slide is ALL the way down in the carb. That is not good to run a brand new motor like that. Did u adjust the valves? And your speedo cable should have a grommet on it that fits in the wire bracket just like the front brake line has. Ride it like that amd that front knobby will chew the speedo cable up for ya.

Idle Adjusting

Can you please point me to where I can learn how to adjust the idle and the throttle cable?

Thank you.

Well I guess that's one way to break em in. Don't do that again. Adjust the valves, RIGHT NOW. And check that throttle. It's probably ok. But she was a turnin amd burning for sure. Let's hope your garage amplified the RPM. But to me it sounded like 9 GRAND

There is a screw on the side of the carb body like where the slide would be inside the carb. That is your idle speed adjustment. Turn it OUT. Then the throttle should have a 1/4 of free play. Like the throttle will twist a little bit before you feel the cable pulling the slide up.

On first start up you will have to keep it running with the throttle after you turn the idle screw out. Then when the bike is warm you turn the idle speed screw in until you achieve a nice idle. With out a tach you just gotta play it by ear

There's only one adjuster on that carb. Just crank it and turn it in or out (i forget) and you will determine which way to go with it to lower the idle.

If the idle increases with the handlebar turned , the throttle cable is binding somewhere and causing the increase. Make sure you correct something like this before you ride (dangerous).

Letsride speaks the truth.

Thinking about it now, I more than likely screwed up my engine

If I heard that I would be looking out of the windows to see if somebody was doing lawn work after dark before spring.

It's ok, just breathe. She's probably ok. Just pull back on the reins a tad. You let all 17 of them horses out the gate and boy they were off and running . Go watch motocheez' video on the Hawk 250 valve adjustment. Then fix the idle issue. And you are probably ok. Man I'll be honest I cringed watching that video. But thank you. I understand that you also may have felt rushed by OUR impatience. That is a great looking bike

I didn't listen to the video but unless it sounded like hell breaking loose in there it will be fine. These things are hard to kill...remember their heritage?

I'm sure human being could share a few torture stories of these mills.

I had to take down the video. I can't handle the thought of what I probably did to my engine and that being further validated by the comments.
