When I had the side cover off to grind out the damaged area (presumably due to chain failure), I replaced the nasty phillips screws with stainless socket head cap screws. Turns out that was a bad idea; that chain rubbed on 'em. 8O

Today, I removed the socket head screws and substituted stainless hex bolts that I cut down to the proper length. Below is a shot of how close the screw head was to the chain.

Here, you can see the witness marks on the screws. The chain looks fine, so I'm glad I caught it early.

Here are the hex head bolts. The pic is deceiving; there is ample room there now, but I can see where a larger countershaft sprocket would be a good idea. I might buy one anyway, to get the revs down a bit.

The good folks at Saga hooked me up today with a set of high bend aluminum bars and some wide footpegs. I'm going to install those at my next opportunity. Stay tuned.

No, only a 428! That amazes me, considering the mass of the rear wheel.

I know! They feel great, even sitting still in the shop.

These were meant for a China DS bike, and they are a perfect fit on my TW.

Those look just like the ones Roger has on his KLR that cost about $100! :P

Looks like Weld has a date with a can of black spray paint.... :wink:

I have a lot of painting to do, but I just want to ride for now. I'm consideing getting a buch of stuff powder coated over next winter, if i can find a fair price.

I thought about that, but I can't fit a frame in the oven. I need to get another welding project powder coated anyway, so I'll see if I can get a good price on everything.

I got my new bars installed. The height feels perfect for me. Thanks to Saga for the good deal!

I also spent some time heating and bending the shifter lever to accomodate my big feet. It was bent in towards the drain plug, but it feels ok now. At least I can reach it.

Bars look great! You might have mentioned it before but I missed it, what kind of front signals are those? They look good

Those are temporary signals that were meant for a scooter (I think). When my new resistors arrive, I'll use my LED signals in the front that match the rear signals.

. I thought they looked kinda cool with the headlight and tucked in nice and close.
