So far, the Ranger is growing on me. Admittedly, I've never been a Ford guy. I've had a few of them in my past and they all hated me. One was even possessed, I swear....and I don't even believe in that stuff.

That said, my father-in-law no longer drives and this was under a car cover in his pasture. He wanted us to resurrect it before the mice ate it. I've been handling one thing at a time on it and have it pretty cleaned up now. One nice thing is that there is tons of info online about these, so answers have been easy to come by. I've already fixed the cruise control, air bag light and repaired some paint work. I'm hoping if I show it enough "love", the Ford gods will look kindly upon me this time around.

I have learned one thing though. Just because it's a smaller truck, with a smaller motor, doesn't mean it gets any better gas mileage than a 3/4 ton big block.

i know all about that.... LOL buddy of mine had a dodge Dakota, as do i, he had a V6, i had the 5.2l v8, and i got better mileage than he did....LOL granted better mileage consisted of 15mmpg around town and 22 on the highway, but he was getting 12 in town and 18 highway....LOL best fuel economy leap i made was getting a subaru forester that gets 26 around town, and (if i ever did any long haul highway) over 30mpg...

Same is true of my Nissan Frontier. I got a mid size truck because I still have to park in tight parking decks downtown on occasion.

-I don't think the mid size trucks save much fuel or money; even with a 4 cyl. (the 4 cyl models always seem to come equipped with tiny tires too).

-That newer front wheel drive Honda pickup gets good hwy gas mileage and tows 5000 lbs. Pricey though.

That’s just the first symptom.

LOL.. being a new rider (got my moto license the same day as the bike), as in the only time I've been on a bike in 30+ years was back in Aug while taking the MSF course, I'm nervous as crap. In fact, I'd never ridden a street bike till the MSF course.

So far, I took it for a spin around the dealer parking lot and a loop around my house on the lawn.

BTW, I can't get over how heavy this bike is... Felt like it took an hour for me to unload it from my pickup. The only ramps I had were these 2x6's. And with the weight of the bike, I kept thinking I might forget to use the brake properly and have it fall off.

I will say this, before I got it home, I had two different people tell me how much they liked the bike. One had no idea what it was and the other thought it was a fully restored vintage bike.

I wish it attracted chicks instead of old guys. Hahahahaha. When I say old, they were a lot older than me at 51.

I recall those feelings of trepidation. Better that than over confident.
As one of those codgers you mention, take it easy and slow until you gain some confidence and learn the REs quirks. All bikes have them. After you get a few thousand miles under your butt, consider the MSF Advanced Rider Courses.

And ATGATT. I admit that I fudge this a bit when on my Ural, but it full uniform when on the Maggot.

CJ, that is a gorgeous bike.

No truer words spoken. My neighbor and riding buddy I sold my RX3 to rides WAY over his head. I need to have a talk with the guy before I'm the one who has to bring bad news home to his wife. He thinks he's Valentino Rossi but he's really Pee Wee Herman.

Take your time CJ and as cheesy says, after a 1000.00 miles, take the advanced course.
