Any 4 stroke is a whole different bear VS the 2 stroke counter part just due to the power band. I've scored a bunch of cheap 4 strokes due to people running their old props from 2 strokes and hating them lol. That weed Wacker probably has a crap cam in it though, migh be fun to play with and see what you could get out of it.

I had a craftsman 4 stroke weed eater I was going to try using on an air plane but for the same reason never did. They make a bunch of low end with nothing uptop. You just need to build a tug boat lol

another downside to them is the size of the flywheel.... takes a lot of room... i have to have the engine mounted pretty high with the flywheel to clear.... not as big an issue on a plane...
i would love to have performance similar to this skarab some day..... |

So the 2 stroke boat is twice as fast, no surprise there. But you're 4 stroke does have a nice sound to it.
Yesterday we got the Traxxas reciever in the Baja 5b. It had been awhile since I fooled with a Traxxas radio so I had to look up a video on how to bind them. And I thought it wasn't gonna work because they took almost a full minute to bind instead of the usual 1 or 2 seconds. But it seems to be working well. I won't be able to test the range until I get my other parts in. The antenna wire is considerably longer than the factory reciever, even though they're both 2.4ghz so I think I'm gonna find a longer antenna tube. Also I'm gonna have to test what happens when I turn off the receiver at WOT.

that was the number 1 reason for trying the 4 stroke...LOL i am tempted to swap out the fs130 head thats currently on my weedwacker for the 110 that was in the boat, since they share all the same periphials, and the 130 is an extra 6ccs, and half a horse more power.... not to mentino its an almost brand new shortblock, compared to the tired 110 that a coworker had stashed in a corner of the shop when i came in with many issues, none of which were the engine itself....LOL quick exhaust swap and intake removal, swap the mount and pullstart housings, and its done... LOL

Got my box of goodies in the mail, everything but the Hostile nylon spur gear. It's being shipped from Australia so it might be awhile. Oh and the clutch bell housing has yet to arrive. What you see here was $150.
I am amazed at the build quality and sheer weight of the wheelie bar. It comes in at just under 1lb and and is almost all steel! Even the silencer is bigger and heavier than I imagined and is almost 4" long. The combined weight of everything (silencer, wheelie bar and spur gear) is 1.72lbs and most of that is behind the rear wheels. I foresee the rear wheels hooking up better and a greater tendency to carry the front end. Adding a couple of pounds to the rear of a 40lb car that was already light in the front end will have equate to wheelies and grins. And the extended hubs will make it wider and more stable. I can't wait to run it!

i wish i could get my evader to wheelie... LOL all it does is spin the tires like mad when the freshly swapped in OS .15cv-x gets on the pipe... might have something to do with the 8+ yr old tires on it... want to grab something new eventually.... at least i got the rinning issues solved.... the redcat sh18 that i was trying to rin in it is a pile of scrap...LOL air leaks everywhere, bad pull start, etc... today was the first day i ever got to run over half a tank thru it... the last few times was frustration of trying to get it to start and run for more than 3 sec... let alone run the car... only reason i didnt get the full tank thru was a puddle... flooded the air filter (on top of all the snow that was caking on it) and couldnt get it to restart.... took it back in hte shop and cleared it out, got after run oil in it, and then got it to start once more to idle out the fuel line after dumping the last oz or so of fuel...LOL man theres a world of difference in runability between the cheapo motors and an OS.....

In stock form the Baja 5b spends most of the time just spinning the rear wheels and not hooking up. If I want to carry the front end I have to do a quick 180, which pitches the weight on the rear wheels. However the 45cc will do wheelies on command, and that will probably be my next engine. I've even considered buying paddle tires, I've seen vids of them hooking up very well in grass and dirt.

If anyone can recommend some good rear tires.. I put Proline Badlands on my Stampede and they're great tires but they don't last long on a Baja. Hostile Nightmares are supposed to be the best but I think they've been discontinued. Rovan sells some knobbies but I can't imagine them being much better than the stock Dirtbusters. I also need to switch to pink foams, the stock ones have almost no give to them. I'm also looking at the tractor tread tires and rims that come on the Baja Maxx MT.

Had to throw her up on the rack for an "all" change as Jerry would pronounce it. My motorcycle lift is turning out to be very handy.
