Does the Rocketa RSM200E have a rev limiter??

Hey.. I am planning on doing the exhaust and carb mods, to free up the engine, and get some more power.

Currently I am running out of power not RPM.

If I get more power, I am worried that I could over rev the engine.... SO is there any rev limiter to protect the engine on the top of the rev range.

My model does not have a tach.. so I am kinda in the dark.

BTW if anybody has a tach that they don't need that will work with my model I would be interested in it.

Thanks.
Ken

No rev limiter and a tach off another bike wont work with the Roketa. The Roketa doesn't have a cable hook up on the engine to drive the tach.

Not suprised by the lack of a limiter.. But I am wondering about the tach hookup.. They did make models that HAD them... and there is a plug on the cam cover I think... I looked around for aftermarket tachs that are driven off the coil wires... and they can be had but for $60-$120

Thanks..

Ken

I could be wrong, but if the bike has a CDI ignition, chances are there is a rev limiter in the CDI circuitry.

On my Lifan powered Honda XR200, I skipped the chinese CDI box and installed a White Bros CDI from my XR100, which is supposed to have unlimited revs and a different advance curve.

It woke up my modded XR100, and I'm guessing it does the same on the 200.

Nope, no rev limiter. Most of the Japanese sport bikes come through with a built in rev limiter, but a CDI is no guarantee the manufacturer went the extra mile and programmed in rev limit code. These bikes seem to have a very flat ignition curve, so I am not even sure the chinese CDI's monitor a spark curve at all, let alone limiting revs. There's no throttle position sensor, so I think they are just using CDI because it's cheap to manufacture. I do think an aftermarket CDI box would be a great improvement to these bikes. OB1, I think you just found my next MOD!!!

Well if there is one it would have to be a really high limit. Miss a shift or find a false neutral and you'll see what I mean.

Last summer, I remember running my Lifan WOT as high as it would go on the tach in 2nd gear. It didn't feel like it hit any kind of rev limiter. It simply wouldn't spin any faster. IIRC, it was somewhere around or after 9k but I don't plan on repeating that test again.

there is definately no limiter in these.. but i know for a fact that you can redline the hell out of them and they will not blow up easily.. it just revs and revs but doesnt go higher.. (missing shifts is a good way to find this out like mentioned up above)

I've not seen any China DS bikes with electric tachs. They have all been cable driven. I'd love to find one though because my Roketa doesn't have one either. Have you got a pic or a link to a China bike with an electric tach? That would be great!

Red, if you will take a good picture of your CDI box and plug{s}, I will let you know if it is the same as I am running. I am running the stock XR200 wiring, so it was plug-n-play for me.

I am sure Red knows it, but mods generally work better in conjunction with others, and any 1 mod may not make much difference. Get the intake and exhaust uncorked and the jetting correct 1st, that is when the aftermarlet CDI will get your attention folks!

Hey OB1. Damn, I just had the CDI box in my hand today while I was moving the battery. No pic, but it appears to be the same as a Honda. Rectangular box probably 3/4 in x 2 in x 3 in, give or take. Two plugs on the same end, side by side. One 4 prong, one 2 prong. Next time I'm in there I'll get a pic.
