My truck is low enough to just step in. I like it that way.

I actually use my truck. The 2 wheel drive make it real easy to load things. My dad has an old dakota and loves it for that reason. He usually totes his snowblower in there. The 4x4 silverado stays home. The dakota does better in the snow. :?
The little ranger has hauled bigger loads than many of these big 4x4s I see running around here. Seriously thinking about a diesel swap though.

Mazda rotary would be an interesting swap. I had in interesting problem with my Ranger. I had 4 new all-season radials on it, you know the kind, computer designed, get stuck in wet grass, I could not find "normal" snow tires in 14" to fit it, so I went to 15" wheels and some block type Goodyear tires.....stuck no more. |

Just alittle bit. I search for some help there.
14" tires are near impossible to find anymore. The benz needed those. Fortunately no need for snow tires here.

While I would be first to admit: a Ranger is not much of a "truck", it does all the "trucking" I need to do and is, well, in my mind, in line with my belief that I should be using the least I can to get the job done. I am fooling with the transmission at the moment to get it working the way I like. Fortunately no need for snow tires here. I, recently on a highway drive, got 20mpg..............@ -15 |

I probably use the ranger beyond its rated capabilities, but its getting the job done.
The little 4cyl is getting me 21 in town. I don't go on the highway much.

"Normal" temperatures nets me 26mpg highway (or it did last summer), I have a few tricks to get a little more, but I'm struggling with this transmission.
You mentioned a "benz".....the early 60's 4 cylinder benz transmission will bolt to a thermo-king diesel.......maybe a consideration for a swap? |

That is a thought. I had a couple of 300Ds. One running WVO. The cars were a nightmare though. Not their fault, just neglected too long.
I think a 240d engine would work well. I don't think the 5cyl would fit. Allen
