Hey Guys,

Ive been searching high and low all over this internet looking for a forum to rest at..... After looking around this seems to be the place to be when it comes to these chinese bikes i see everywhere..

Recently i got a great deal (so i think).... I picked up a Powermax 200GY, which i believe is a zhongshan or whatever because that is what it says on the tires....

I picked up the bike for $200, because it had a flat tire...and the kick start seems to be a bit messed up.... i was able to buy a powermax 150gy parts bike with blown engine for $100..and was able to put the front tire from the parts bike onto the 200GY..

Recently ive had some trouble with the kickstart.. sometimes when i go to kick it.. there is no resistance.. it has trouble kicking..and other times the kick goes a bit too far forward... im also finding that sometimes when im riding the bike won't shift... thru trails and error.. it seems like the shifting issue is related to the kick start.. because the kickstart is loose..and when i move the kickstart back to the position it should be in when not being used..the bike seems to shift again.... any suggestions would be great..

Also i came to the forums because it seems you guys know what parts can be used for replacements on this bike.... heres to praying because it seems all the local shops wont touch this bike at all... so repairs will have to be done by me and my roommate...

Welcome!

Have a pic of your engine? That will at least tell us if the engine is an early Honda clone or not.

Weird symptom on the kicker. At first I thought you had a stripped kicker gear, until you said it seems to shift when you move the kicker... odd.

Welcome! Sounds like you'll have to crack the case and look. Perhaps the shift fork has popped loose and moved forward, interfering with the kick start ratchet/shaft? Been a while since I've had mine apart.

Thanks for the warm welcome..

Lemme kinda clarify what i was talking about... the kick start spring is done.. so when the bike gets to high speed.. the kick start folds out..and it also moves forward a bit.. which seems to prevent me from shifting gears with the gear shift...... when i move the kick start back up beside the engine where it should normally go... i seem to be able to shift again regularly.....

I worked at a pawn shop and someone brought the bike in with the flat tire...so i offered him $200 and he took it.. Im near Barrie Ontario....

I believe the kickstart could be stripped, because sometimes when i go to kick it.. it just slides through....

Also ive noticed..when ive been riding the bike for a few mins..... and i turn it off... if i try to turn it back on... it wont kick over....

After hearing that symptom, it might be as simple as a stripped tooth on the kicker gear (or the clutch gear). Maybe something has just come loose that causes the gears to separate and the spring to disengage. You could likely drain the oil and remove the right side cover for a look; please show us some pics if you do.

i posted some pics in the dirt thread..... ill see about taking off the cover... im not the best mechanic... but my roommate is a bit better with those things..
