Well moving the clip to the bottom notch helped noticeably. Now it's at over 3/4 throttle that I start to lean out, but there is more power now (I suppose the engine breaking in helps that some too) and smoother throttle response.

I've not taken the carb off or the bowl off yet. That will come next. I've been building fender brackets for the last couple of hours.

Thanks for the tips so far. I'm slowly getting there.

How do you determine that it's leaning out?

When I'm at the point where it starts to loose power and sputter, I can give it progressively more choke and it cleans up. With the choke, I am restricting the air flow and increasing the air-fuel ratio to a point where the engine can run smoothly. Power is reduced, but it smooths out.

I'm also assuming that the exhaust will lean it out a lot as every bike or car that I've opened the exhaust on has went lean. You can also learn from the sound and how it behaves if it's very lean or rich.

My 250T was doing the exact same thing before I adjusted the float/cleaned it out. I doubt the exhaust makes a big enough difference to require rejetting for smooth operation/non-bogging (for some added performance...yes)

Just open thast baby up and fix it- it's a fast and easy job.

And when you put it back together, turn in the mixture screw all the way. Then back it out two full turns. Should be perfect there. Maybe because of the exhaust, it might need to come out another 1/2 turn...but wait and see.

I'm glad that I have you guy's input on this. I just need to get in there and do it. I'm the worlds best procrastinator.

I'm actually pretty happy with the low end torque of the motor now. Just idling around in a gear and thumb the throttle and it really pulls hard for a 250.

It's the hot part of the day now and I just finished installing the new fender mounts so I'm going to take it for about a 14 mile spin and see how things go.

That's the way my V4SW was...amazing for a 250. I guess the exhaust makes all the difference.

Hey...don't feel bad...it took me like two weeks to get around to doing my carbs! (access is a little tight on the 250T- but once you do it, it's not bad)

Excellent answer; such comments help fellow forum members. Since you've dropped the clip to the bottom position, it's likely time to place it back in the middle position and get a fatter jet like you said. I'd take the jet into the local Honda shop and buy a few that are larger. My local dealer keeps them in a compartmentalized plastic box.
