Hi, New guy here, looking at a redcat gy200 (fixable?)
Hey all,
I'm considering picking up a redcat 2003 gy200 on the cheap. Its problems as stated by the seller: "An electrical short in the ignition. One of the coil wires got hot because it shorted out. Also the carburetor mounting piece or manifold on a multi cylinder engine needs repairing or replacement. It could use a new battery box." He is desperate to get it out of his garage and will let it go for practically nothing. ($100) Are these compatible with the more common 200cc china bikes for parts? Worth salvaging? |

Thanks
Fairly confident in the labor side of things, just a little worried about locating parts. It does seem like a sweet deal though Hoping the Redcat gy200 is similar to/same as.. say.. a Zongshen 200GY or Lifan GY-200 or something along those lines |

Yep, I've looked at photos of the redcat and it is definitely not a Zong. When you get it, take some high rez photos of the bike and especially the motor and airbox area with all the plastics off so the guys here can id the components. Shouldn't be too much trouble to get it running again, and a lot of fun to boot.

Sounds like a great opportunity. A little testing and guidance from the forum members will help pinpoint the electrical trouble. My guess is the regulator. Any other bets?

Brand new engines (Lifan) are around $400--that's if you can't fix the engine in it. I know that the Zongshen and Lifan engines are slightly different for installation purposes, but they can fit. Buy that sucker up!!

AFAIK, The Redcat is Lifanoid. Same as everything else.
AFAIK, there are three basic types here: -Lifanoids -Q's -Zongs Bear in mind, I'm a beginner at this Chinese motorcycle game. I'd buy it now. It's worth three times that in parts alone, and it sounds like an easy fix. The motors on these bikes are usually fine.
