Can you hold that 2 stroke at WOT for more than a mile???withought irreversable dammage...2 smoke Cheap rebuild  I agree, but every 1000 miles.3000m Max.??? Many 30 year old 4 strokes run without issue, after a very long hard life,like20,000 mile ...while the same vintage 2 smoke dirtbike gets parked after stranding their rider 1 too many times...lol
I am sure that most 200 DS guys hold their throttle to the pin ....well for ever....all the time...with minimal fixing...nevermind how much more thought goes into rebuilding a stout 4 cycle. Build it once for life!

pardon friday night MillerGenuineDraft rant

 uh... I mean Congratulations on new bike. Cannot disagree with the very high ratio of fun factor with a 2 stroke...instant hit of addrenaline.

They have their place.
If I am not totally out to lunch I would guess that the older bikes lasted longer between rebuilds...but it might just be that you can push the new engines more due to improvements in suspension and frame design...therefore premature engine failure.
